HEMNES Bookcase saves the day...

ORDER # 379729337 / Purchased March 22nd 2021. /Price $190 + tx.

The Product:
I've always loved Ikea products, but hadn't purchased anything from Ikea in years. I really needed a bookcase and the obvious choice for me was Ikea. I had a look at the Ikea site and found what I needed quickly. I am happy with the HEMNES bookcase. I find this particular one attractive and easy to assemble. I was able to store approximately 250 books, purchased in recent years, that had piled up in my office.

The Service:
The bookshelf was delivered by movers under contract with Ikea. This surprised me. Anyway, the first attempt at delivering the product to me was not successful, though I am partly to blame for it, not having heard my cellphone. However, I did provide other means to reach me, which were not attempted by the driver. The second attempt went much better and the two gentlemen were very nice and polite and also considerate. I wish I remembered their names.

Was made to leave the express lane. Although I only had 12 items :@

I don't usually write reviews but this really did bother me because I have never experienced this before.

I went to the North York location today with my mom and had one of the worst experiences at Ikea. Usually when I go to ikea I know what I am getting into. Customer service is not the greatest because it is mostly self serve but it's something you can get use to. Sometimes you can find staff members to help but I find they are usually limited. However, this is not what my review is about. My review is based on how we were treated at the very end of our trip.

At the checkout point we had pulled up near one of the express lanes. We did not intend to go to the express lane but we were standing close because we were trying to check out the bins near them. My mom had stepped away from our cart because she was trying to get some of the cinnamon buns. I was also checking out the cinnamon buns as I waited for her to browse some more. As I was waiting I was then approached by one of the staff members at the checkout lane. She was very rude and I felt like she jumped me. She advised me to leave the lane. I then proceeded to tell her that I was not in line to use the express lane but as I said that she had already jumped me by saying that I had more than the maximum limit to use that lane. I felt like I was being attacked and that I was being accused of doing something wrong. Although I was not planning to use that lane I then told her that my cart was in fact for two people anyways and that half of the items were actually for my mom. She then decided to go on and she started to count the items in my cart and told me that what she sees is still too much. I then told her that I knew for a fact that my items were indeed less than 15 because I knew exactly what I had picked out. She then decided to call over another employee who then stated the exact same thing. This employee was very rude as well. She wouldn't even looking at me and she started to state false things like the lamp I had in my cart was actually considered two items.

My mom then over heard this and decided to get involved as well. She told the girl the exact same thing that I had told the girl earlier, 'that we did not plan to use this lane and that the cart was for two separate transactions." She looked at us and said, "no, I see more than 30 items."

How would she know this? Can she see every item in my cart? No she can not and we did not have more than 30 items.

This employee then decided to walk away from us which is the worst thing you can do to a customer. My mom then went up to her and told her that she did not like how they singled out us and that we were going to another lane anyways. My mom then asked for the managers phone number. Instead this employee decided to call the manager. As we waited to cash out in another line the manager then came up to us. We explained the story and she stated that they will work on coaching their employees. She stated that the employee had made a wrong statement about the lamp. Each box is considered only one item and not two. I feel like nothing really came out of this situation though. I couldn't even point out who the first employee was because she had taken off. I fell like they could have handled this situation better by being more polite instead of jumping down our throats. At the end of our check out, I ended up with only 12 items and my mom had ended up with 20. My mom only ended up with more because she had picked up 6 more items while standing in line. Those 6 items were not in the cart when they had told us to leave the line.

Swedish touch or the Swedish Job

We went to the store to purchase a sectional with two chairs and a coffee table. The sectional was on a special and the sales staff said (after disturbing their chat with other 2 employees) said place the order online if you want delivery... So we drove home. And noticed that that product for that sale price was only available for that particular store and does not apply to online sales and to the other stores. So we choose another product.... Today is the 3rd attempt to do the delivery. They should have been here at 2 pm latest. It is 4:15 pm. I'm on the phone for the last 20 + minutes. No one knows anything. Ridiculous and unbelievable. Trying to cancel my order but apparently I can unless I receive the order? This is a joke right?

Delivery never showed; refund refused so far

Ordered a wardrobe in-store. Delivery was supposed to come Tuesday night between 5pm and 9pm, but no one showed.

Since then I've spent hours on the phone with Ikea reps - first time they put me on a fifteen minute hold then hung up on me. Second time they said they'd call me back and never did. Third time was a half-hour phone call full of long holds. I asked for a refund and they refuse to do it until they've shipped the wardrobe back to the store. (Do they think it's my responsibility to make sure my neglected order makes it back to their store? I never received it in the first place!)

To sum things up, they haven't given me my order and they won't give my money back either. Plus the hours of wasted time. Ikea seemed reputable to me but they're just as crooked as anyone else.

Kitchen Nightmare

I am trying to redo my kitchen with the new Sektion cabinets launched in February. They are very beautiful and functional cabinets. The problem is that Ikea has been out of stock of many of its kitchen parts almost from the get-go! I first placed my order for my 12-cabinet kitchen on March 23. At that point, I got about 70 percent of my order. It took a further six trips to Ikea to collect everything else. To date (June 1), three drawer fronts are still missing, with no indication of when they will come back online. This would be fine, but to cap it all off, today I was told that Ikea would not come to template the countertop until all the missing pieces are in place--the pieces that are missing because Ikea is out of stock of them! If this isn't Kafkaesque, I don't know what is. It is getting to be so that every time I go to Ikea I get into chats with other folks in this nightmare and we laugh and slap each others' backs for being Ikea Chumps. I can't believe they took my money for the countertop, knowing full well that they could not by their own policy even measure it, because my kitchen would be incomplete without their missing cabinets. I know there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other customers out there in this situation too. It's time Ikea was called out for this disaster.

furniture delivery

I had though Ikea would be a lot more efficient in its furiniture delivery. It was very difficult to change the pre-set delivery date and time - required 3 phone calls and a long long time on hold. The delivery company delivered a whole bunch of stuff we didn't order - multiple bits and pieces from other people's orders as well as a sofa we didn't order. My mother in law who received the order for us tried to argue with them that she didn't think we'd ordered all of this stuff but they insisted she was wrong. Kind of a mess to sort out later.

Bed frame

Very satisfied with my new bedframe. It was inexpensive. Been using this bed frame for about 6 months now and no issues. They also have great service because the workers helped me put the bed frame in the car.

Kitchen renovation

I purchased a dishwasher from IKEA during a kitchen sale, which was not delivered for a number of weeks and not installed until later due to construction delays. The main mechanism of the dishwasher was defective. Because it was installed more than 45 days after it was purchased IKEA refused to exchange it. DO NOT PURCHASE AN APPLIANCE FROM IKEA UNLESS IT IS TO BE INSTALLED IMMEDIATELY. The stove they delivered was also defective - the stove handle was hanging off - I' m fine with fixing that but not the dishwasher. A ve I wary disappointing experience.

Bedroom Renovation

I chose ikea to update my bedroom. You ust assemble the furniture yourself but the instructions made it very easy! The store concept is cool, where everything is on display as you move through the store and there is a section at the end before you pay where you can then pick up the items you want.

Kitchen Installation

Ikea was very helpful in suggesting how to best install a kitchen. They suggested the correct parts to be included which would allow us to have the style that we were looking for. They made the process quite seamless.
