Canac Kitchens Ltd., A Division of Kohler

The worst project of my life and worst customer service experience that I had ever in my life, is with Canac Kitchen (Ottawa, ON Canada).

We order the entire kitchen (L-Shaped, 14’ x 22’) in July 2007. Order was delayed and supplied in October 2007 (sitting in garage for month), then it was installed in November. Most of the doors were defective and supplied with bad finish despite paying good money for Maple wood painted in Dark chocolate color. Salesperson apologized for supplying bad quality material and re-ordered entire set of the doors and had it installed after the first quarter of 2008. We also received some wrong cabinets n the first place and the first round of installation took about a month, before I could put the granite counter tops. Then we were missing some doors, side panel for fridge, wrong size cabinet and doors, microwave shelf and may other things. For that reason, valances (under the cabinet) were also not completed. Story goes on and has not ended as of writing this review the project has not yet been completed. In fact, now I have some doors with wrong type of handles that need to be re-ordered and lot more to replace/re-order. I have asked Canac’s Sales person yesterday to fully refund my money.

For a company as large as Canac Kitchens they have the worst customer service ever. You know the saying the customer is always right, well canac thinks they are always right. Its taken them 6months thus far to finish our kitchen and they have yet to complete it. They do not want to take responsibility for anything and want us to pay more money into something that was put in our kitchen that was incorrect. I highly recommend that if you are interested in using this company for your kitchen reno, don't! you will be wasting your time and getting stressed for absolutly no reason at all.

I ordered four drawers for my pantry, simple enough right? After 12 weeks I got a phone call my drawers had arrived, it took the parts guy half an hour to find them in the warehouse when I went to pick them up -- and they were the wrong size. So, another 8 weeks for the reorder and after my call to go pick them up ... guess what they can only find two after another 45 mins to an hour searching the warehouse. Nightmare.

Took six months to install. Wrong measurements, unprofessional staff, un-skilled labour and poor workmanship. Screws were not covered, spacing of shelves were wrong, wrong dimensions for wine rack & centre shelve. Cambridge Location poor customer services and worst management. Didn't meet promised delivery, installation dates. Never answered phone calls or concerns. Never called to explain mistakes and how to fix them. Will never ever use them again or even recommend them to others

Kitchen was not operational for 3 months, as there were significant mistakes made in preparing and installing the kitchen cabinets. For a 10 by 15 kitchen cost was over $25,000. What they delivered were cabinets with foil finish and maple hardwood doors. Cabinet doors were all different tone "gold dust". It took them over 10 trips to get the major issues sorted out. After nearly 12 months we still have problems that are not sorted out. One that is so blatantly bad is the lazy susan have 3/4" gaps all around. The fit is a little tilted. I have been told by the company installers "not to see it" that is after spending $25,000. While it is a very large company and the sales team seems to care, no one seems to take a look at the value being provided to the clients. Since their policy is payment in full when the shipment delivered, you are on your own.

I am not happy with the kitchen and over all low value received for such an expense.

Since the installation I have talked to 2 other Canac clients. To date both seem to be sharing similar issues.

We ordered a kitchen island from Canac Kitchens. Alina helped design the island to make sure it maximized the island space without making the walkway to tight, by providing an in-home consultation which we found other companies did not want to do for our small job. The quality was good and the install was an excellent job as well. We also went with their preferred supplier for granite (Maple Stoneworx) however we felt the communication could have been better as the design documents were passed on to Stoneworx but Stoneworx was unsure of the curves we wanted. We had to confirm at the time of templating. Overall on the cabinets and design, Canac did a great job! We would definitely recommend them.

We purchased our cabinets from Canac of NJ and have been waiting 11 weeks for replacement items. We were told they would install some of the replacement items in the next week or so (though we are not holding our breath) but that they don't know when the remaining cabinet doors will be arriving/installed. Seems irresponsible for a company to be so disorganized and non commital. Not sure how or why they are still in business. I can't believe they are a Kohler company. I am in the trade and usually specify Kohler and Kohler family products but after this I will certainly be stopping that practice!

This is still an ongoing saga with this company. The sales person was fine and did a good job on design but everything after that was less than poor. Here are some of the things that have happened.

1.Installer was probably the biggest Amateur I have ever seen. Not only did he smash holes (yes, I mean holes) in my brand new drywall, he told me this comes wit the territory of an install. Huh??

2. Almost none of the cabinets or drawers were level. Major issues with some of the drawers.

3. There were cabinets and doors missing off the delivery. We are still waiting for these to arrive. (6 weeks after the initial install).

4. They were late by almsot 2 months from the original install date.

5. I have been calling and leaving messages to find out what is going on and still have not received a call back. This has been 2 weeks now.

Overall, the price was adequate but outside of that, this is one comapny you should stay as far away from as possible. Spend the extra money and go somewhere else. I really don't know how these guys stay in business.

Do not, I repeat Do Not use Canac Kitchens of Oakville for your Kitchen Renovation. As of April of this year it will be a year since Canac has come in and measured ourjob. We are on our 5th re-order of some cabinet fronts to be replaced. Five times we have had to refuse replacement fronts because they were unsatisfactory. There customer service is horrible, the workmanship is shawdy at best. I Had written to the president of Canac/Kohler to express my concern and I received a call from a customer rep, which did not make a difference to our situation. He did not follow up at all as to our satisfaction. So Canac has had our full amount since June of last year, and we still do not have our full kitchen order.
Please, research any company that you are thinking of using for your renovations.

We have done one full kitchen & 3 bath reno and one new home (kitchen + 4 bath) with Canac and we are very pleased.

The first time - the reno in 2003 - they were 2 months late, but once they arrived almost all was perfect - A number of defects were identified on the doors but those were promptly ordered and replace within 2 months.

The second time - new custom home - they were exactly on time, all doors were perfect + installation.

Very happy.
