Re-route duct work to provide heat to bedroom
We had moved into our 80 house and found out that there was no heat to one of our bedrooms on the 2nd floor. We contacted several companies but many never called us back and some were downright rude on the phone. Gus from Atlas care came by last year in October of 2010 and took a look at the problem and gave suggestions on how to rectify the problem. We scheduled another inspection with an 'expert' in duct work from Atlas and when he came, he worked with me on a plan on re-routing ductwork from the furnace in the basement, up through the floor in the living room corner, up through a hall way closet on the 2nd floor, up into the attic and dropped from the ceiling into the room without heat. We decided this was the best option cosmetically and in terms of practicality. He also installed a return air for the 2nd floor and that has made a big difference in the winter and summer in terms of airflow. Service was done in 8hrs. They lined my house with red rubberized carpet to prevent damage to our floors and cleaned up after the project. Quick and painless and now we have heat in our bedroom! My only minor issue with AltasCare was that they charged me an hourly fee (2hrs - I think it was $150) to 'cut and fabricate' the metal for the ducts. This was never mentioned up front and appeared on the final bill on the last day. Not sure if this was a money grab at the end of the job, but I paid it since the final product was very good. I suggest you ask for any fees upfront, as should be the case with all contractors. Otherwise, I am pleased with AtlasCare and will contact Gus once we need our furnace replaced or repaired.
