My husband contacted two contractors (recommended by the Home Service Club)for quotes on repairing the falling plaster surface of the cinderblock wall separating our living room from the one next door. The first recommended that my husband and I strip the existing wallpaper & wash the wall down "to save an extra $1,000" that he would charge to do this. He would then fill in the areas where plaster fell off then sand it down for an even surface. He asked $2,800. The second contractor recommended that we forgo removing the intect plaster to save us money. Instead, he would cover the broken plaster with drywall, fill the seams with plaster, and sand it for a smooth finish. His bill was $850, a saving of almost $2,000. It goes to show that getting a second opinion is important. Especially for the senior crowd.
