Roof leak detection and repair
We were at our wits end trying to find the source of a leak into our guest room. Our fireplace chimney runs up the outside of one of that room's walls and was was coming in at the area where the ceiling and wall join. From an attic inspection we found that the chimney brick exposed inside the attic was wet and dripping into the top of the wall framing. One roofing company we contacted said the problem was with the chimney. We contacted a chimney company and they didn't see any chimney damage that was causing the problem. We tried caulking things around the chimney ourselves to no avail. There was no evident water damage on the roof when looking inside the attic. When searching for a company to help find the leak source, we found Juff's Roofing. They sent out Adam from Mr Roof Repair. He was wonderful to deal with! He and his partner inspected the roof and attic and eventually found what they believed to be the problem...the water shielding that was installed under our shingles during a 2004 did not run up along the sides of the chimney brick under the flashing. Adam also said that our chimney did need some tuck pointing before he could guarantee any roof repair. He suggested we get the chimney work done prior roof repairs so that he could closely inspect that work for us as well. We got the chimney work done during the first week of August and Adam came to do the roof repair the next week. He was awesome! He took before and after photos of all stages of the work, showing us that he had replaced the roof boards around the chimney, installed the blue skin lining we asked for up along the edges of the chimney before reshingling with new shingles and adding new flashing and caulking. Adam also took the initiative to install some edging to ward off any future problems we may have with the way our roof drains water around the chimney into the eavestrough. We did have to pay an initial $149 consultation fee which was later credited towards the repair. We are waiting for some serious rainfall to confirm no more leaking, but based on the repair photos and Adam's attention to quality and customer service, we are confident our problem was solved.
