After a year and a half and several false starts on our bathroom reno, we discovered Lumberland North and more particularly Max! After visiting over 30 bathroom stores we found Lumberland on a Homestars search. We dropped by the store hoping to find a vanity and an hour and a half later we had purchased everything to start moving on our bathroom Reno...including tile selections. If you have ever done a bathroom you know what a difficult and overwhelming job this can be. Max offered his assistance with the vanity we were considering and we mentioned how difficult we were finding it to put all the pieces together. I showed him some pictures I had captured from Houzz and he literally took us round the store from section to section choosing tiles, vanity, sink, faucets for sink, bath and shower and a toilet. He even took us on the computer generated paint selection tool and narrowed down our paint options. The prices were very competitive and kept us within our budget. What made the experience so amazing was Max's expertise and eye for design. He gave us a sense of comfort and confidence in the choices he assisted us in making. My husband and I left the store about an hour later totally amazed and relieved. As I mentioned living with this project for almost 2 years, having visited every store from east to west, and having spent more than $1000 on the services of 2 "designers" who were useless and a waste of money we finally found the right place and the right help, at no cost. We are so grateful for Max's help and guidance. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

When we decided to update our bedroom, the first thing that had to go was the popcorn ceiling. Trying to save some money, we decided to do the job ourselves. After removing the popcorn the ceiling was in rough shape and the amount of labour required to fix it seemed daunting. At that point we decided to call in the pros and after reviewing Homestars we selected McDermott's. We were under a tight timeline and called Shane to see how quickly he could do the job. Shane fitted us in within the week and he and James did a fantastic job. The ceiling is amazing. They were extremely careful with our carpeting and cleaned up after they finished. They were professional yet down-to-earth and friendly. We were comfortable with them in our home. The rates were very reasonable. We would highly recommend.

We recently worked with HIP regarding our master bathroom renovation. What drew us to the company was the volume of excellent reviews both on Homestars and on HIP's website. The company's focus on bathrooms gave us comfort we would be dealing with experts. Like other reviewers have mentioned, from our first meeting with Ben, we were encouraged by the prompt response we received. Haydee in particular was extremely efficient and professional in getting back to us with questions and additional information. Gerhardt who was assigned as our Project Manager is highly knowledgeable and provided great insight into the project. A renovation is never easy and so finding the right contractor is the first step in securing a beautiful finished product.

Despite the best of plans, spring came and went without making any progress on cleaning up the backyard. While I enjoy my garden, I was feeling quite overwhelmed by the state of the yard and finding the time to do something about it was proving a challenge. So I finally called in the pros. Darla and the "Garden Girls" arrived and within 2 hours my yard was in fantastic shape. I really appreciated how hard the "Girls" worked and also enjoyed the sense of fun they brought to the task at hand. I keep popping outside just to admire how lovely my yard now looks. Thanks Darla and crew, I am looking forward to future projects. As a frequent user of the Homestars site with great success, I am delighted to have found another 10!

After using Reliable to replace our home furnace last year and having such a positive experience they were naturally the first call we made when our A/C went on the fritz during the recent heatwave. Given the unit was 21 years old we suspected a new conditioner was the likely outcome. Leroy confirmed this was the case and provided a quote. To make sure we did our due diligence we obtained 2 other quotes. Ultimately, given our prior positive experience and Reliable's great follow-up we determined they were the only ones to go with. Pete installed the unit and worked non-stop throughout the day in 30+ temperatures. He was extremely knowledgeable and very professional keeping me updated on his progress. The unit Reliable recommended is outstanding. Our old unit never fully cooled down our upper level. This new unit keeps the house comfortable and is extremely efficient. After installation, Rob handled all the paperwork to file our rebate claim with Toronto Hydro. We are once again extremely pleased with the service, value and expertise provided by Dave and the Reliable crew. They are extremely honest and totally committed to customer service. We recommend them without reservation.

After reading the great reviews for North Shore on Homestars, we hired them to replace our eaves. Over the winter we had some problems with ice build up and put a call into Angela. Darren came out immediately. Turns out the problem was related to insulation in the roof and not connected with the eaves at all. Darren returned a second time to follow-up and make sure we were satisfied. Darren, Angela and the entire crew are true professionals. They take customer service very seriously and stand behind their work. To me that is the real proof of how good they are, not only did they finish the job to the highest standards they are always reachable and responsive when questions come up. We continue to be very satisfied with the work they did for us and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone seeking an honest, professional and reliable contractor.

April, 2011 We arrived home late Saturday night after being out of town for the prior week to discover a cold house and a furnace that was not functioning. The furnace is 21 years old and so we anticipated the worst. After consulting Homestars (which we have done for our past 4 home projects, to great success) we found Reliable Home Comfort. Their reviews were outstanding and so we called on Sunday and they were at our home in under an hour. After spending a considerable amount of time working to restore the furnace it was obvious it was a lost cause. Rob and Dave were very patient and took us through the various options in plain language. Their quote was very reasonable and so, we arranged to have a new energy furnace installed the next day. [Amazingly, there was no charge for the Sunday service call which was most impressive]. Dave explained that the furnace will quickly pay for itself due to it being high efficiency. They arrived Monday morning and worked non-stop. They also were kind enough to service our water heater. Dave and Rob's were very knowledgable, professional as well as very down to earth and friendly. If you face the daunting task of replacing a furnace, you should not hesitate to contact Reliable -- they make the entire process painless. They even processed our rebate forms! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Last year we had Daimon of Ashlar Landscape (formerly Forest Hills Design Group) install an interlocking walkway and entrance steps at the front of our home. We were so delighted with the finished product that, this year, we asked Daimon to install a patio in our backyard. Because of a family event we requested a pretty tight timeline. Daimon worked with us to create a beautiful design and made suggestions regarding stonework selection for under our elevated deck which saved us considerable expense and blended wonderfully with the upgraded stone we selected for the main patio area. The combination of the stone created a wonderful contrast. Daimon and his crew shifted approximately 35 tonnes of extremely heavy clay from our backyard to ensure the depth was sufficient to support the installation. This was removed via a steep slope, by wheelbarrow over a 3 day period. Daimon, Brett and John worked non-stop in intense heat to keep the project on track. As was our experience last time, Daimon was very flexible to adjustments to the design so that, when the project was completed, we were totally blown away by the transformation to our backyard. We now have a space that is perfect for entertaining and has greatly increased the value of our home. We had 30 guests enjoy the patio this past weekend and everyone commented on how beautiful our yard looked. Daimon is without doubt one of the most professional, flexible, client service-orientated contractors we have ever had the pleasure to work with. If you are looking for a talented craftsman, a dedicated and hardworking crew, and seek a transformation to your current space at an honest and highly competitive cost -- you have just finished reading about the perfect company to handle your landscape project. If you are reading this review then like us you are on “Homestars” seeking help in finding a reliable and honest contractor. After contacting a number of companies, we eventually narrowed our search to two. While both had received very favourable reviews on this site, we were amazed by the substantial price difference between both (almost 20%). Since we felt the other company had given us an inflated quote and as we had a limited budget we went with FHDC (I have to confess with some second guessing as per the adage “you get what you pay for”). Giving us some comfort was the positive first impression that Forest Hills owner, Daimon Ferguson, made when we met him. From start to finish this was a dream project (I am in no way connected to Forest Hills less the enthusiasm of my review raises that question). Immediately after meeting with Daimon we received a detailed quote. He committed to commence the work on a specific date and he did! We had been prepared for work on the project to stop and start as other client demands surfaced. However, Daimon and his team turned up early each morning and worked non-stop through supper time, until the project was completed in record time.
