We purchased a new house in 2007 and we did not hire an home inspector. We sold it in 2008 and the buyer did not have any problem when the house was inspected. Hence, when we moved into our current new home in April 2009, we did not see a need to have a home inspection. In our minds, home inspections are only needed for resale houses and we have the 1 year Tarion warranty should things go wrong. Boy... were we ever wrong!! It started with minor problems with the house - the usual "superficial" problems.. dents, paint job, etc. etc... but as time went on, we found more serious problems (patio door did not have caulking, water leaking to the basement). At this point, we decided we needed to have a home inspection so we can ask the builder to fix all the problems (who know what else..) before the 1 yr Tarion warranty. We are so glad we called Brent. He was very pleasant right from the first time we talked on the phone. He came to our house right on time and started the inspection right away. We had many many questions, not only about the problems, but possible solutions, and he was very patient on answering every single question in words that we understood. I think it took him almost 4 hours to complete the inspection. We are now a lot more confident when we talk to the builder requesting to fix the problems as we understand our home better. Thanks Brent for the service! We will never buy another home (resale or new) without having YOU inspecting it. We will definitely recommend you to all our friends and families.

Company Response

Thank you for the feedback R & D in Oakville!!! I really appreciate the feedback! You know, new homes are a funny thing, many have very minimal issues and others can have, wow, a ton of things. I understand nothing can be perfect, however how many brand new homes have I done where there is a soaking wet basement! Many times the homebuilder will tell them it's "normal" to have moisture in the basement. Well, they're right, it is, but not insulation saturated in water or a 10 x 10 pond in the basement. I would be curious as to what the homebuilder will tell you when you point out the area of roof they forgot to shingle! That's just sloppy, nothing else. Anyway, I'm sure it will all be remedied and you will be happy in your new home. Thanks again, and thank you for choosing Classic Home Inspections!
