After having previous quotes from a company that we called in a hot-water-tank tubing-failure emergency, we checked around and found that the original estimates were very high. We went to visit Pete the Plumber at his showroom after seeing the HomeStars' and other reviews, and were impressed with products and with Pete's estimates (half of the previous estimate), and booked. The work was mainly done quite well by Wayne (faucet) and by Matt and his assistant (one hot water tank). For Wayne's work, we would award 5 stars. However, there was a geometry problem in installing the second of our two tanks and a smaller footprint tank had to be installed instead; we were told that Monday between 12 and 2 p.m. the new tank would be installed. That did not happen. When we called about it, we were then told it would happen on Thursday, and it did. Darren showed up to install the second tank, but, instead of the copper tubing we had had, he installed Pex, a polyethylene product, for most of the tubing to the 2nd tank. This was unexpected and we were not happy with it, despite its alleged certification; this product is cheaper and has ~half the estimated lifetime of copper, and (to us at least) presents unknown long-term health concerns. We now have to evaluate whether we need to have this Pex tubing replaced with copper, at additional cost, of course. For the most part, we were happy with the service and, except for the Pex issue, would have given Pete and company a rating of 4.5 for the relatively timely and professional work. For faucet installations, we have no hesitancy in recommending Pete the Plumber, especially if they send out Wayne!
(Note added Mar. 23: I am pleased to add that Pete did make things right, and the job now appears to be completely satisfactory.) I have changed my rating accordingly.
