DO NOT EVER DEAL WITH ALL-CAN SERVICES or ELVIS! I am currently out-of-pocket approx. $1600 and have been unable to trace Elvis for approx. 3 weeks now.
On July 15, Elvis came to my neighbourhood to give a quote and do the paper-work to fix the roof for 2 of my neighbours. Since these two neighbours were currently signing him on, and he had previously done jobs for 2 neighbours, I had the comfort and made the mistake of blindly hiring him to replace the shingles on my roof without looking him up any further. In my defence, word of mouth was a good reference. He took a cheque of $1600 (half the cost of the job) as a "retainer" and indicated that he would do the job either on July 23 or July 30. This cheque cleared my account within the next 3-5 business days.
On July 23, the shingles were delivered for the neighbours and my job.
On July 24, work commenced on my neighbours' roofs. Shortly after starting work, he tells them that he under-calculated the size of their roofs and therefore needs to order more material. This would cost them an extra $200 each. The next day, one of his men takes down some bundles of shingles from my roof without Elvis even having the courtesy to mention this to me (inspite of it being material I have paid for). I simply assumed that he has ordered more material which he will use for my roof, and while he is waiting for the material to arrive, he will use the material sitting on my roof to complete the neighbours' roofs.
On July 26, he finished the job for the 2 neighbours. There was a conflict between him and one of the neighbours due to damage caused on their driveway by the shingles supplier and the neighbours holding back part of his payment.
On July 29-30, Elvis relayed his side of the story to me and tried to pit me against the neighbours, saying that they were supposed to pay me (i.e. the unhappy person writing this review) for the shingles they used. But hey! my contract is with Elvis, not the neighbours. I should not be dragged in the middle of a conflict he has with his customer. He said he would sort things out and get back to me by Monday, Aug 5.
On Aug 5, I did not hear from him. When I called him on Tuesday/Wednesday August 5/6, he said that he has "it all worked out" and will get to my roof the following Tuesday (i.e. Aug 13). He would call me on the Friday (i.e. Aug 9) to confirm everything. The material would "hopefully" arrive on Monday (i.e. Aug 12).
This is the last I heard from him. Neither did he call, and neither did the material show up. I have left him around 8-10 voicemails since Aug 13. He has not responded to even one. My husband also left him a voicemail and email earlier this week (Aug 26), giving him a final chance that if we do not hear from him, we will post a negative review on HomeStars, as well as pursue other civil and criminal proceedings. NO RESPONSE!
I am now stuck with a roof that still needs to be repaired (will have to now go through the whole process of getting quotes from other roofers, who may not be able to give me a good price, since I don't have a neighbour also getting their roof done), and $1600 that have left the bank account. There is some material sitting on my roof. However, not sure of the quantity and residual value. IN SHORT, ELVIS AND ALL-CAN ROOFING HAVE RIPPED ME OFF APPROX. $1600. This is a significant amount of money, which is not easy to write-off, especially when you are on maternity leave, getting EI payments.
All in all, a HIGHLY NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE in dealing with Elvis and All-Can Services, and would strongly recommend against anyone hiring him for their roofing needs. I find it quite surprising that he has so many good reviews on HomeStars, with everyone talking about his honesty and responsiveness, when I have had the exact opposite experience. I makes me wonder about the truth in the other positive reviews.
