I noticed my front porch and stairs were flaking a little bit. The boss came out and looked at the bricks and gave me an estimate which I thought was reasonable. Then the actual contractor came and discovered a lot of problems. The top of the porch was an addition. I hadnt even noticed that the porch was slanted though by the door jamb I shouldve figured that out. The bricks had started crumbling, and the mortar was crap and in the end, though it was more expensive, I have a safe, beautiful front porch and steps. It is so well-made it will outlive me.
