Crafted Office Solutions is dishonest and incompetent. He may call himself a contractor but he is not. His work is so bad even the most amateur DIYer could do a far better job.
He was contracted to replace two doors, four windows, a small roofing job and small flooring and trim job.
He took money from me to buy some siding. We were weeks waiting for it. I asked where he bought it from and called the company myself. They said they didn’t have an order. When he finally confessed that no siding was coming, after several weeks of me asking when it was coming, he blamed it on his business partner saying that he placed the order and she was going to make payment over the phone. The problem with this story is that this company doesn’t take payment over the phone.
He took off a half wall of siding on the back of the house to install the windows. I asked him if he was going to re-install the siding he took off. He assured me he was. The problem was that I could not find the siding anywhere on my property. He then came up with this story about the rest of the siding to convince us to replace the whole wall. I realize now this was a story to cover up the fact that he wrecked the siding. Basically we contracted him to install some windows and he ripped off the siding on half our house.
The job was supposed to take two weeks. It took over two months before we finally fired him. He never showed up for a full day’s work. And then when it was all done had the nerve to charge us $500 for a fuel surcharge that was not in the quote.
He was very agreeable when providing the quote, always going on about working with the amount to get the job. Then when he started it was non-stop requests for advances because he was broke. Including one time when he said he needed gas money to get back from the cabin. A real professional!
His worksite was always a mess, he left garbage on our lawn for weeks. Even though we paid him $350 to haul away all the garbage there was garbage all over the place that he didn’t clean up.
The doors were so poorly installed that one did not close (I had to fix it) and the other had two inch gaps between the siding and the door because he cut them too short. Basically leaving the side of the house exposed. The brick molding was falling off it was barely even screwed in.
When he worked on the inside of the house he left it a huge mess. He was careless when he installed one of the windows and damaged the new countertop that my wife spent considerable care installing.
There were big gaps at the seams in the window casing that we had to fix.
The lawn was soaking wet and he drove his SUV on our lawn and left huge divots. He had the nerve to ask our neighbour to pull him out.
When he reinstalled the siding on the other door he lost a bunch of pieces and put them all in out of order so it looked like garbage. Basically another instance of contracting to get a door/window installed and then having to replace all the siding because of his incompetence.
The trim work he did was so bad I had to rip it all out. It had one inch gaps everywhere that could not even close be filled with wood fill or caulk. The trim around the window was just bizarre and he left the casing all exposed.
Instead of installing the flooring after he painted he put in the flooring and then painted and did not use a drop cloth. There was paint all over the new floor.
It was the most incompetent flooring job I can imagine. He left 3 inch gaps at two ends that could not be covered with trim and quarter round. You are supposed to leave a ¼ inch gap for expansion. It looked terrible.
And this really blew my mind. Vinyl plank flooring works like laminate flooring. It slots together. I noted the last piece had a big gap. When I looked at it more closely I saw that it was not attached. This is because both ends were cut and he just pushed them together. This is the “Crafted” in Crafted Office Solutions.
He covered up a ceiling light fixture for a room and lost a piece for the light fixture. I guess his thinking was that we didn’t need light in that room.
When we pointed out that there were these gaps between the brick mold and the casing he said he would take care of it. He cut this random piece of wood and crammed it in there. It just looked ridiculous.
A big end cap on the roof is dangling off which he did not repair.
He took down the eavestrough when he did the roof and did not replace it. Hoping we didn’t notice I’m sure.
He didn’t cut the excess shingles until we told him to fix it and when he did it was very poorly done. It wasn’t a straight line. It was all over the place.
When we got a siding contractor to replace the siding he took off he pointed out to us that the roofing was very poorly done. The part where the roof met the house was not properly installed and may leak, the windows had 10+ nails around the top so that water stood a good chance of leaking. A professional will usually only do one or two so that it minimizes the chance of leaking. He used 16!
We gave him lots of chances to finish. He kept saying it would be one more week. When we finally had enough we gave him one week to finish. He did very little if anything during that time. He sent us his final invoice and berated us for payment and immediately threatening to sue if we didn’t pay immediately and because we had the gall to ask him some questions.
