We selected Carpentry At Its Best on the strength of our neighbours' recommendation. They had a kitchen reno done by Carpentry At Its Best, showed us the final result and told us about their experience. The owner, Niall, contracted to do two major renovations in our house. One was a complete redo of our kitchen, dining room and upstairs hall, and the other was to renovate our basement, including the rec room, bathroom (adding a shower), wet bar, foyer, hallway, closets, etc. Both projects involved a complete gutting of the respective spaces; ceilings, walls and floors, running new copper wiring to replace the outdated aluminum wiring and correcting the shoddy plumbing that was original to the house. The first thing to know about Niall’s handling of our very large project was that it was completed within the originally stated timelines and on budget. This was despite the several glitches and problems that appeared, as they inevitably do in old houses and projects of this size. The second thing to know is that the work was top rate. It was very clear from the beginning that Niall took great pride in the quality of his work and that of his workers. He even had a worker redo a specific finishing task because he was not satisfied with it. Before any work was done, Niall spent extensive time going over what we wanted. He listened very carefully to our requests and concerns and was always forthright regarding the complications that may be involved. We were out of our home for 10 weeks. Niall offered us a weekly walk-through to review what was done and what the next steps would be. He was always on time, and every commitment for a meeting was met. Several different tradesmen came through our house and every single one of them was professional and courteous. We felt very comfortable in leaving our home in the hands of these fine workers. We are delighted with our new kitchen, dining room, halls, bathroom, rec room etc. Below are some before and after pictures of the kitchen, and several shots of the basement. During the consultation Kevin listened to what we wanted, and worked with us to get it. At every stage, he took the time to explain the process and to incorporate our particular concerns.
