With no knowledge or experience whatsoever we decided to demolish and rebuild our house. Being completely clueless meant we had to ask dozens of very basic questions at every stage of the process. It also meant that once committed, we had no choice but to have faith in John and Renocorp. 2 years later and I can say without reservation that every single time we gave John the benefit of the doubt, it worked out in our favour. Every. Single. Time. This project started in the immediate aftermath of COVID. There were initial shortages of everything, including labour. Problems with suppliers, drama with subcontractors, complications with existing infrastructure? We were insulated from ALL of it. The only problems our job encountered were relayed to us as humorous anecdotes from inside our perfectly finished house. Wed hire John again, wouldnt bother with a second estimate, and if he were too busy? Wed put the project on hold and wait for him.

We hired Erik in April 2021 to contract a draftsman and provide building plans for a renovation. He took a $4,200 deposit but the plans never materialized. We received a rough copy which bore little resemblance to what had been discussed or the pictures we'd provided, but we figured that's what rough drafts are for and remained optimistic. After several months of being asked the same questions and sending the same pictures he asked for an additional $2,000 yet couldn't explain what it was for. Mind you this was not a $2,000 payment towards the outstanding balance, this was an ADDITIONAL $2,000 and it would have brought the total for the job from $7,500 to almost 10k. The project itself had not changed at all. We wouldn't pay the additional charge without more details and he immediately dropped the matter and never brought it up again. We were told we were back on track and it would just be a couple more weeks. As months came and went it was always just a couple more weeks from being finished. Gradually communication got worse and worse and we stopped hearing anything at all. Text messages went unreturned. The final result was that we paid $4,237.50 and walked away with nothing. Everything Erik said he could do he failed to do. A good salesman but a terrible contractor. He'll say one thing with total certainty, then a month later say the exact opposite and never even acknowledge the discrepancy. In April he said $7,500 included design of the floorplan AND the roof and would take 3 months. In December he retroactively modified the terms and said the previous agreement only covered floorplan design. Of all the many discrepancies between promise and reality this was the most inexcusable. Bait and switch, pure and simple.

Showed up on time to give an estimate. Showed up on time to do the work. Work performed quickly and for exactly what the estimate stated it would cost. Quality of the work was solid.

They were deliberately misleading during the initial phone call. I was quoted $90 service call fee plus parts. If I opted out of the service once their technician arrived, I'd still have to pay the $90. Makes sense so far, I didn't even mind paying their 60% markup on parts, fair's fair. So how did I pay $366 for a 20 minute service? Because they purposely conceal the $220 flat fee for labor until you are already on the hook for the $90 service fee.

Hi Troy, it is very unfortunate to hear that our service caused such a negative impression on you. I took a freedom to listen to the recording of the initial phone call, when the appointment has been booked for you. It was on 11/27/2020 at 10:20 AM. You called to our company asking for a service for your gas appliance. Our customer service representative advised you that “the way our service works, the service call is $99, the technician will come to diagnose your appliance and will give you an estimate for labour and parts (if needed). If you decide to proceed with the repair, you will be paying for the actual repair, and we will not charge the service call fee. In case you decide not to proceed with the repair, the service call fee will be applied. So, you either pay for the service call or for the repair.”
You also have asked if our technician can do the job with the parts provided by you, and you were clearly advised that we work only with certified and sealed parts from. You agreed to this terms and booked the appointment with the customer service representative
As you can see, there was no such a charge as $90, and it was clearly stated that the cost of the repair will consist of the price for parts (which in your case was $104.12) and the price for labour (in your case it was $220.00).
You were not charged for the service call at all, as you can see. Our technician was able to fix the appliance on the spot, and advised you so right after the diagnostics. You approved the estimate and our technician completed the repair for you, with the final and only total charge of $324.12 +tax. There was also 0% markup on your parts, you got the price from our supplier without any increase, only the tax was applied.
Regarding the fact that our technician completed the labour faster than you were expecting: we do not charge the labour per hour, we charge per issue. Our technicians are highly professional and the quality of their job does not depend on the time spent for the issue resolving.
We hope that this explanation is detailed enough and satisfactory for you. We would love to see you as our returning customer in future.

Very timely communication and prompt service. They had to come back several times to properly diagnose my furnace but I never had to wait more than half a day. You get a lot of service for your dollar here.

He installed a pool light, a hot tub, and several other outdoor items. He was very meticulous and professional. My renovation involved 3 contractors and this was the only one who finished under his original quote AND the only one I never had to call back in to fix something. Highly recommended.

I sought two estimates for this job. The first quote I got involved the paver taking 3 measurements and providing me an estimate based on 800 square feet. The second quote I got was from Altino @ AllSeason Concrete and involved him taking 7 measurements and providing me with a estimate for 964.3 square feet. Who would YOU go with? I say precision always wins. It was a long process, but any day that real work was being done Altino was there personally. No B-team of subcontractors. The final cost was as-quoted, the work was solid and looked good.

They were very prompt in returning my call, showed up 30 minutes early, and diagnosed all problem areas quickly. Price was very reasonable, all water leakage was stopped. However I had to call them back as they mounted the new faucet at a 45 degree offset so it would not reach the sink. They returned immediately and fixed the problem but that's a pretty big thing to have missed. They're also a bit messy with the caulking so I'd be wary of using them if you've got a place where something like that would stand out. I'd hire them again, but not for any/every plumbing job, just the rough ones.

I had them come out to hook up a Pool heater and was immediately told that I had insufficient gas supply. Fair enough. The technician told me it was MY responsibility to have it increased and that I should take it up with the person who sold me the Pool Heater. That's right, the HVAC guy I paid to come out and hook up my Heater told me it wasn't his job. It cost me $111 to have that professional consultation. After a week of back and forth with Union Gas I was told the Abbey Air tech was just too lazy to fill out the form and that neither myself nor the retailer were authorized to do so. Abbey Air offered no apology and acknowledged no wrong doing but said they'd apply the $111 to any future work they do. How generous. EDIT: Despite the copy/paste reply below, no one ever followed up. Zero attempts made.

Their quote was accurate, they showed up on time, finished on time, and did a better job than they had to do. There was at least one chance for the technician to take a shortcut and save himself the grief of working in a confined space. He took the time, and did it right even though he likely assumed I wouldn't know the difference. Some people in this world still take pride in their work. Hallelujah.

April 16th - Snow still on the ground. I call and speak with someone at Prestige Pools who is very knowledgeable and very helpful. I get a quote for a new Pool Heater and Sand filter, we agree to first week of May install and that I will send him pictures and measurements. I tell him the job MUST be done by June. He assures me it won't take nearly that long. April 20th - I send the requested pictures and measurements. May 12th - Still no sign of Prestige Pools. I call and ask when the new install date is. To my surprise the person I dealt with on April 16th has no idea who I am. I remind him, he says they'll be by the following week. May 23rd - Still no sign of Prestige Pools. I call again, speak with the same person who sounds overwhelmed and annoyed, he gets me off the phone quickly by assuring me that he'll be by Sunday. I have no idea why he's coming by since he already has everything he should need but I agree and tell him I'll see him Sunday May 27th. May 27th - Still no sign of Prestige Pools. I call and ask to speak with the same guy I've dealt with 3 times now, I'm told he's busy with a customer. he probably wouldn't have remembered me anyway. At this point I'd have to be a masochist to continue dealing with this company. A month ago they were inconveniencing me, now it's become overtly insulting.
