Goldenfinger did our basement renovation back in February and March of 2022. After requesting quotes from a number of contractors, we had a good feeling about David and Wei Wei. The pricing was competitive with other smaller contractors, but we gravitated towards Goldenfinger because of their flexibility with products (we wanted to self-supply quite a few things) and that they seemed genuinely interested in taking on our project and didn't just treat us like a quick quotation job.
We appreciated that David took all of our concerns and questions seriously. I am an extremely picky person so I probably pointed a lot of things that the average home-owner would not have cared much about. But David never disregarded or ignored any of our requests and really took the effort to address all of our items.
The work was delayed a few weeks from their original estimate, but luckily we were flexible and it wasn't an issue. The delays were partly because we added new scope throughout the project, some elements had to be remediated, and just general scheduling issues with more than one project which is to be expected. We didn't want David to rush through things and preferred that he take his time.
I think the key aspect of this review is to convey the level of integrity and honesty that David has. We have a custom shower with Mosaic tile base in our bathroom. After the first Mosaic tile was laid down, I had some issues with the consistency of the grout line gaps because it was a black tile with white grout. After discussing with David, he agreed to remove the tile and have it redone. The second install was much better and we were happy with it.
About a week later, David informed me that he realized when the drainage piping was installed for the shower, that the p-trap was never inserted. While he was applying silicone sealant on the second install, he noticed a sewage smell coming out of the drain. David had an extra worker helping out with some of the plumbing work early on in the project but realized that his workmanship was not up to par. Unfortunately, the drainage piping was already installed and he didn't realize it was missing the p-trap.
Without hesitation, David told me that the shower base would have to be taken out a second time to reinstall the drain pipe, repour the slab, and a third install of the Mosaic tile base. This was all done at their own cost, of course, but it really showed us David's personal nature and commitment to his clients. This was very near the end of the project, so it was a very inconvenient delay especially for Goldenfinger to have to redo this work. Although we were disappointed with the news, we appreciated that David had our best interests in mind and made sure we were not going to be left with a substandard product.
Ultimately, we are extremely pleased with the end product and would not hesitate to have Goldenfinger do future work at our home (kitchen reno is up next!). We highly recommend David and his team to any other prospective homeowners looking for a respectful, honest and skillful team to tackle their home renovations.
Side note: communication with Wei Wei was great. We don't speak Mandarin, but I was amazed at how well we were able to communicate with David via translation apps on our phones.
