In 2012 I had a leak through a crack in my foundation. I hired a company to come and fix it and Shawn came the next day. Shawn was a pleasure to work with and did a great job at putting up with all my questions and concerns. He sealed the crack in my foundation and I haven't had a single problem since. Fast forward to February 2016. I sold my house and the buyer wanted a copy of the transferable warranty for the repair. I realized that I had already packed the warranty and trying to find it would be impossible. Everyone knows how stressful it is trying to sell your house and this put my stress through the roof. I called Shawn who had left the company I originally hired. Shawn told me that my best bet would be to contact the original company to obtain a copy. However, Shawn offered to honour the warranty under his own company if I was not able to obtain a copy from the original company I hired. Shawn is obviously a man of his word and stands by the work that he does. Great job!

I called de Taeye Designs and spoke with Shawn and Jon who agreed to visit my home and provide me with a quote on some basement leak repairs. They showed up on the same day which was greatly appreciated as I am trying to sell my home and needed quick action.

I was very impressed with Shawn and Jon's demeanor and appreciated that time they took to explain what they could do for me and my family home.

After doing some research on the company and reading the reviews below I decided to give the job to de Teaye. I was not disappointed by this decision. Shawn and Jon did a great job in communicating with me regarding when they could be at my home to start and complete the work. These times were honored which, I again, greatly appreciated as I am attempting to sell my home and needed the work to be completed in a single day.

It is normal for contractors to take advantage of a person who needs and emergency level of service but I want to 'call-out' de Taeye did not do this to me or my family. Instead they were very accommodating to my needs and did not take advantage of my situation. Rather the opposite, I felt like I was being taken care of by someone who understood my position and wanted to help a fellow out.

As a person who used to work in construction, in an Engineering capacity, I can report that I was very happy with the quality of work that was performed to repair the two foundation leaks in my home. The work is backed up by a Lifetime Transferable warranty. Lifetime does not mean 25 years.. its means for the life of the house in de Taeye's books. That's standing behind the quality of your work!

I hired someone from Kijiji named Anthony , he built a deck and started on a porch frame .. failed inspection .. we fired this really bad contractor.. I was referred to Shawn .. We were extremely happy to have such an experienced knowledgeable contractor take over .. it was almost like Mike Holmes from make it right , that's the attitude Shawn had .. they had to completely rebuild from scratch , everything was built so badly .. Shawn and his crew were so professional .. all my neighbours made such great comments on how great it was to see such a great workmanship .. I know Shawn was completely booked up for months but he moved things around to fit us in and correct this horrible situation we were in .. I can't say enough about Shawn and his crew .. would definitely recommend this company to anyone ...

I was very fortunate to meet Shawn when he was referred to do a small blocked drain repair for me. He showed up on time and the work was carried out in a very professional manner. Cleaned up afterwards and then we got chatting! Told him I would be considering refinishing the basement. He came in and gave me a whole lot of ideas and spent many hours of his time in my basement. We met the following week when Shawn supplied the 3D drawings as promised and on time. We agreed to proceed with the renovation. The next day he brought his team along and introduced me to all the people that would be working at my home. A timetable was worked out with Shawn and his trades and to date they have followed this 95% of the time - we had some delays with materials ordered which were not delivered on time as we headed in to the Christmas holidays. Shawn's daily communication was greatly appreciated as it kept me informed of what was happening at my home. Shawn has an amazing group of professionals that he works with and recommends which includes his carpentry team, plumber, electrician, dry wall specialists, tiler, landscaping and masonry professionals. I can now proudly say that we are 98% complete and I am very satisfied with the quality of the work and the way that Shawn and his team conduct themselves. I was so happy with this team that I have contracted Shawn to do my kitchen renovation as well. Happy to say we are in the process.

We hired Shawn to do a basement renovation for us in December 2013. He said the work would be done in approximately 7 weeks. It is now almost 7 months later and the work is not done. We were never provided with 3Ddrawings as promised, cleanings have not been done and personal items were thrown out by his staff after being put where he told us they were safe. Shawn refuses to return calls and makes appointments to come by and does not show up, doesn't call to let us know, and does not answer his messages. He shows up unprepared with the wrong materials and his workers are messy and show no regard for others' property. They are careless with painting jobs and have installed items in the wrong spots and cut holes in the wrong places in walls. He now tells us he is so busy with new jobs, yet he has never finished this one. He also has not provided warranty or paperwork for us. I have provided a picture to show his finished work on our new door and hardware. There are brush strokes visible and our new door handle was installed before painting and splattered with paint. This is not acceptable.

After a very long and harsh winter, I had started to notice a significant amount of water pooling on the floor of my semi finished basement. After pulling some things apart myself, I had come to the realization that I had some serious water issues in the basement.
I had heard about Shawn through word of mouth and had heard very good things about de Taeye Designs. Shawn was able to schedule me in quickly, and showed up in a timely manner.
Using his expertise, he was able to find two cracks in the basement foundation and was able to complete the job quickly and efficiently. He was also able to repair the drywall for a very fair price and did an excellent job cleaning the area after the work had been completed.
I look forward to finishing my basement with de Taeye Designs later on in the year.

I first had the pleasure of meeting Shawn two years ago when he helped design and construct a wooden ramp for my dog that is too cool to use the deck stairs. My neighbours and I…and my dog have since come to admire the ramp addition. Thus, when I finally had had enough of looking at my “leaning tower of Pisa” continuously rotting wooden fence this past summer, Shawn’s name immediately came to mind.
I share my twenty year old fence sides with four neighbours. Initially, I had only planned to redo the badly rotten side, especially given the great reluctance of my neighbours to be spending all that money. Past “Band-Aid” solutions of nails and wires were faring poorly against the throes of weather and time. Two neighbours in fact opted to install their sides on their own. Yet, when they saw the quality of work produced by Shawn and his workers, combined with Shawn’s profound knowledge of the trade and his consistently professional and reliable work ethic and commitment to not only insure the fence work but to provide a heads-up as to upcoming rise of lumber prices, their own fence work clearly paled in comparison. So, what begun as one side of a fence soon transformed into a neighbourhood fencing project! All remaining sides were replaced. Referrals were quickly established with other residents for future projects. This also gave Shawn the opportunity to follow up on the fence work in order to ensure that we were fully satisfied – which we were.
I also discovered that he waterproofs basements. Not that I am hoping for a leaking basement or window anytime soon, but it is comforting to know who to call should a leak arise.
I am amazed at Shawn’s arsenal of skills that continue to grow and would readily refer him to family and friends. Thanks, Shawn and de Taeye Designs!

We had the pleasure of meeting Shawn and his team over a year ago, this young motivated individual was put on to us by a coworker who also had praise for his demeanour and quality of work.
We first spoke to Shawn about plans for a deck and shed in our backyard, at the time we also had spoke about dreams of a finished basement. Shawn discussed with us for over 2 hours plans, ideas, costs, layouts, resale values, etc. WOW. This guy knows his stuff and clearly does homework on a regular basis!!! My husband and I were left speechless for days and had information overload, excitement for our future renovations was evident.
During an "inspection" of the basement with Shawn, he pointed out some problem areas that we never knew existed, CRACKS! WATER LEAKING! Yikes. Nevertheless, Shawn knew just what to do. Having worked for years with a waterproofing company (a family business) before venturing on his own, Shawn knew just how to fix and provide a lifetime transferable warranty for the said the jobs and at a very competitive price. He mentioned that he insisted we get other quotes from other companies for all our desired projects, but every time he came in both with more information, logic, and best of all lower cost. Unreal!!
Overall, we would highly recommend deTaeye Designs Team to do any job you might be faced with or even just for information before you tackle one.
We are overwhelmed and proud to say that we have an amazing deck, a shed, and an award winning basement complete with two egress windows, wet bar, in-law suite, 3 pcs bathroom, and a built in TV centre. All this and under budget!
