We hired A. Breton Relocations for our Woodstock, ON to Victoria, BC move. They had the best pricing for what was offered and able to transport our vehicle along with our household possessions. It was very convenient having all our possessions picked up the same day and delivered the same day. They offer $150 worth of packing supplies as long as you keep your receipts. We also selected A. Breton because they have an A+ rating with the BBB.
We were contacted by Dana with an estimate and she kept us well informed for the months prior to our move. Extreme weather caused our pick up day to be delayed one day but Dana gave us as much notice as possible. Had we not been flexible by a couple days, I think they would have tried very hard to make the original pick up day. Fortunately, it worked well for all parties.
Adam contacted us with an estimated time of arrival and they were punctual. He was very friendly and professional. It was a nice touch that A. Breton Relocations uses roll out carpets to prevent stepping on our floors. I also noticed they used plywood between our boxes and the grass while loading. They were efficient. Adam gave us an estimated time of delivery that day.
Adam contacted us a few days before with the delivery date and time as well as the cost of our move. The final cost was lower than the estimate, as we did not have any large appliances.
There were some minor issues with the move that could be easily corrected. The lid of a Rubbermaid tote and a milk crate were misplaced in the move. Adam offered to reimburse us $5, but they aren't worth that much. It was nice that he offered. Not all moves are perfect, especially long distance ones. When moving our car into the truck, the movers had underestimated the length of the car by a foot. We were given the option to leave the car in Woodstock until the truck came back in a few days or the movers could drive it to their loading location, accepting full liability. As we were leaving town and did not want to leave our car unattended, we chose to allow the movers to drive it away. Our car had to be driven 50 km to their loading location as the items in the truck from other customers had to be moved to accommodate the car. This increases the handling of boxes which may have contribute to misplaced items. Also, it is adding unneccessary mileage and gas.
We understand that as a small company, a foot extra in the moving truck may equal a larger profit margin. However, given the extra time to unpack and then pack the truck, it does not seem worth it. This issue is easily corrected in the future by estimating the correct length. If the movers would warn customers before they need to take apart certain things, such as bikes, that would be appreciated. Given the choice, we would have taken apart our bikes ourselves. It is also the responsibility of the customer to pack their possessions well.
I would recommend A. Breton Relocations. They are a good value but would be even better if the above issues were corrected in the future. We appreciated how they dealt with customer service issues. Some companies put all the blame on the customer, but A. Breton Relocations offered choices or gave plausible explanations. Had we known about A. Breton with our initial move to Ontario, we would have used them over the larger moving company we used. A. Breton Relocations values their customers and seems to care about their business.
