Halton Interlock

My wife and I met Jay after we had done extensive research on companies that provide interlocking services, mainly for backyard patios.

Although many of the companies seemed like they would suffice, it was Halton Interlock that provided us with the confidence and comfort that we needed. And boy, let me tell you, that feeling sure crystallized into the best customer service experience of our lives.

Coming from a profession (law) where client satisfaction is of utmost importance, I can truly say that Jay is the epitome of customer satisfaction.

Firstly, the companies Internet profile is the first thing that drew me in. However, it is well deserved and should be trusted 100 percent.

Secondly, the companies responsiveness, competitive pricing and quality of work was second to none.

Thirdly, this is where Jay stands out from the rest and why my story gives more credence to Halton interlock than many other experiences. We had contracted to do an approximately $10,000 patio. Shortly after agreeing on the job, Jay's crew attended and completed the job well ahead of schedule and the craftsmanship was excellent. I was completely satisfied with the job.

However, after a few days, unbeknownst to myself and Jay, I had noticed a significant discolouration in the stone. I contact Jay and he immediately came to the house to inspect. He fully agreed with me and advised that this was unacceptable to his standards and immediately contacted the manufacturer of the stone to inquire about the discolouration. Given Jay's reputation within the industry and the amount of product he orders from the manufacturer, the manufacturers representative came out to the house to investigate and had also agreed with us.

Within two weeks, Jay had an entire crew of 5 guys attend the house, take out all the stone which was put in on the first job, and then laid out brand new set of stone.

Not only did he redo the job, he also let me keep the 2 week old stone that he had taken out, approximate value of which is $4,000.

For sake of clarity and by way of summary, what Jay did was he had an entire patio installed, then gutted the whole job and reinstalled a brand new set of stone. Also, he let me keep the 2 week old stone. ALL for FREE!

NOW, that is customer service!

If you need interlock done I would not hire anyone besides Halton Interlock.

Spoke to Jay and he sent his guys over. They initially showed me an idea that was slightly over my budget, so they worked with me to get within budget without removing the overall effect. I wanted to grill on the weekend so asked that they complete it in a short time. I was grilling on Sunday and everything made sense again! Luis was leading the project and was on the ball. Thank you so much guys.

They did a phenomenal job on a 30+ year old relay of over 2300sq ft of stone! Crew of guys were so polite and willing to assist, Massimo is an architect! They made a mess into a Picasso! Amazing work and people and worked so hard and cared about every detail! Highly recommend Jay and his crew of talented guys!

I called Halton interlock to get a quote to lift and relay my drive way! Dealt with Greg, he was punctual , courtious. and friendly, gave me the quote ,i called hime next day and he gave me a date they would commence work.The crew came , when Greg said they would and finished the work as stated in quote, very professional,friendly , and most of all experienced . I reviewed several interlock stone contractors and selected Halton Interlock to 'lift' and re-build my old interlock driveway. Owner Jay Durie was prompt to provide a reasonable quote for this large job to relay approximately 1200 sq. ft. of stone and was able to get the construction started was within two weeks. His construction team was more than ready to go on day 1 as scheduled and had the old stone removed and washed up for re-use by noon...a very big effort. Before relaying the stone, the team carefully levelled the old driveway base and compacted two times. The stone lay commenced in the afternoon and by evening, the driveway stone was re-laid, level and square. Day 2 saw the re-lay of the walkways and the application of the polymeric sand and final compaction. By noon the stonework job was complete and the site cleaned up. Later, a load of top soil with grass seed was was brought in to finish up the side of the new lay and really complete the work. Throughout the construction, owner Jay attended the job site several times to inspect the work and to ensure I was satisfied with the effort be done. Minor changes I requested were immediately accommodated. The finished product looks great and I am a well satisfied customer.

The previous winter had really 'done a number' on my 25+ year old interlocking stone driveway and walkways. After researching Home Stars I decided to contact several contractors in order to obtain quotes. I was the most impressed with Jay Durie; not just by his high rating and rave reviews, but, with his thoroughness and attention to detail when assessing what had to be done. He listened to what I wanted and made great suggestions as to type, colour and design of interlocking stone that would complement my house. Jay also recommended that I go look at the various types/manufacturers of stones prior to making a decision. He was also very willing to give me quite a few references to check out; some of these included jobs that were a few years old along with some that were just being completed. I am very happy that I decided to proceed with Halton Interlock; the workmanship provided by 'the Spanish Armada' was second to none. They were prompt, efficient, polite, informative when I asked questions, willing to make changes and even cleaned everything up when they were finished. I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who needs interlocking done.

FURTHER UPDATE TO ABOVEMENTIONED REVIEW--JUNE 2016: The City of Mississauga was doing road and curb work on my street this past April to May; as a result of that the bottom portion of my interlocked driveway was dismantled and a few of the stones were damaged. The Contractor hired by the City of Mississauga would be replacing the damaged stones in order to return the driveway to its original status. Unfortunately, the manufacturer and name of the interlocking stones used by Halton Interlock for the 'soldier course' had not been specified on the original contract. I called Halton Interlock almost on a daily to twice daily basis starting mid-May approximately and left countless messages with the receptionist stating that I needed the name and manufacturer of the stones as soon as possible so that the City Contractor could replace them. Each time she assured me that she would contact Jay Durie (owner) immediately to inform him of the urgency of my request so that he could phone me as soon as possible. I also sent emails to Halton Interlock; I even included a picture of the stones in question. I never received any reply to either my phone calls or emails even though I had specified each time that the Contractor for the City of Mississauga was waiting for the needed information before he could proceed with the repair of my driveway.
The Contractor for the City of Mississauga couldn't wait any longer and resorted to removing one of the stones to take to the original Landscaping supplier (thank goodness I had written down the name and address of the supplier) to have it identified so that the broken stones could be replaced.
Therefore, although the original workmanship was excellent; I am extremely disappointed with the fact that no-one bothered to take the few minutes to get back to me with the critical information that had been requested on various occasions.

A nice young man came door to door with a nice brochure. He was pleasant and professional. The boss (Jay) came to give me a quote.

We discussed the project, he suggested a border which looks very nice. Six or so workers completed the entire project in a day and a half. All were extremely professional. The workmanship is excellent and they provided a two-year warranty. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Jay is a genuine person who provides a top notch product. Our house is approximately 50 + years old. The concrete patio in the back was broken, shifted and was in such poor condition that water damage in the basement was on the horizon. The curbs lining the driveway were falling over and made the yard an eyesore. The front porch was simply a mess. Jay came in and listened to what we wanted, made suggestions and ultimately created a quote that was fair considering the size of the project. Ricky came in and was truly a one man wrecking crew. He removed the concrete patio (50' x 12'), the curbs and pillars in roughly 2 days. Ricky does the work of 5 men easily. Even though Jay is a busy, hands on owner overseeing many projects all at once, he always made the time to touch base, return phone calls and texts to let us know we were important. Jay estimated the job at 5-7 days and it was done in 5.5 days. The crew referred to simply as the "Spanish Armada" were the most impressive and skilled workers we have ever seen. No detail was ignored and every aspect of the job was addressed. The clean-up was done quickly and they even brought material to repair the areas of the grass that were marked up. Most contractors I spoke to before selecting Halton Interlock said that was my responsibility as damage to the yard was inevitable. This just goes to show that Jay goes the extra mile to make his customers happy. I am a very picky person and a stickler for details and I would gladly recommend Halton Interlock to anyone who wants the best stonework for their home. Literally 15 people stopped by and inquired about the work being done and wanted Jay's contact information. To say that the work has improved our yard and overall appearance of our home is an understatement. Congratulations Jay to you and your crew on a job well done.

Jay Drurie runs a very proffesional company which is somewhat unique in the interlock business.His entire team headed by Jeff did a proffesional job in lifting ,redesigning,and relaying my (over 4500) pavers. The finished product is as good or better than we expected and would highly recomend Jay and his Team to any person looking for first class results

We found Halton Interlock through Home Stars and were very impressed with its high rating and rave reviews. After meeting Jay, we knew that we would have him complete our project. Jay and his team installed an interlock side path from the side of the garage to the backyard, a connecting patio in the backyard, a weeper to address water issues, and a resurfacing of our pre-existing interlock that was about 10 years old (not installed by Jay). Everything turned out wonderful! Jay was very professional, timely, and was on the job site daily. Communication was terrific. He had a great vision and design for the project. His team worked VERY hard and completed a high quality job. They were all extremely accommodating of our last minute requests and were very easy to work with. Our neighbours have complimented the work and we are very happy with the final product. The project took approximately 4 days of very hard work by the team.
