We contacted Jim after seeing the reviews on Homestars. The initial job was the following: removal of old, 25 year old tub, tiles and sink; install new tub; intall cement board. We were going to do this as a DIY and we definitely made the correct decision to hire a plumber. Jim gave an initial quote on the phone and held to it throughout the job. His quote was one of three we received and was a fair price. We arranged a start time a couple of days after the agreement. Jim and his assistant, Gary, arrived 5 minutes early on Day 1. Upon learning the bathroom was upstairs they put on their paper booties to take a look. Gary then laid down a floor cover through the hallway and up the stairs. The first day they worked nearly 8 hours with one 15 minute break. This was on a day that was 30 degrees and humid, in a bathroom without great AC. They explained the job and kept me up to date whenever I asked. Removing the tiles was done neatly and professionally in several large pieces and some small debris. They installed the new tub (Jim let me know where I could get a solid deal on one) and shower head on Day 1. Bathroom was tidy when they left. At the end of the day, Jim agreed to install a new dishwasher the next day as well. Day 2 involved installing the cement board and removing the old sink. Then he installed the dishwasher. We then had our tiler come in over the weekend to tile the shower and floors. I called Jim on Sunday night to let him know the job was complete and he could come and finish the shower head installation. I also aske him to install the new toilet and new sink. He came the next morning. A couple of issues arose when he came - the shower head was missing a piece so I had to return and get a new one. He was going to work on the toilet during this time. When he opened the toilet box, he saw it was slightly damaged. He managed to work on other parts of the shower while I replaced the toilet. Minimal delays. It was very professional that he recommended replacing the toilet even though it slightly delayed his day. And, finally, he had to return on a fourth day, to install the sink as we had to replace the one we initially purchased. I called him at 1pm and he showed up at 2pm. So, four visits and he arrived early or quickly each time.
Jim has four different plumbing licenses. In summary, he's excellent to work with and explains the process. He held his pricing throughout and was on time. Most important, he does a solid job.
With a plumbing job, it's important to have someone at home to make the quick runs to the hardware store if you need an extra part (or replacement in our case). That way minimal time is wasted.
I recommend Jim and would use him again.
