Plastering a ceiling

After finding out our condo had asbestos in the ceiling, we hired a company to remove all of the ceiling down to cement. We had to find someone to re-apply a new plastered ceiling and after our search came into contact with McDermott Plastering.

Where do I begin to put these lifesavers in the highest standard possible. Shane is amazing - he's a charismatic guy. As soon as you talk to him you get a sense of trust. He came in with a quote that I was comfortable with. He knows his stuff and was confident and told me the maximum I would pay for the job and he came in right on budget.

The guys were on time, were always professional, always had great explanations for all the questions we had. They used a special plastering system that dries faster, but is higher quality than any other on the market. The guys cleaned up daily and again the respect they had for us was exemplary. If you compare our ceiling to a skating rink it's not shiny, but the evenness is unreal. We couldn't have asked for a better job. We've also drilled into the ceiling for blinds and miscellaneous hangings, and there is no type of defects that I can report.

The painters Shane uses to paint the ceiling are also amazing and after meeting them and working with them I decided to have them paint the whole condo. If you need any job done and Shane says him and his men can do it, trust his word and you will be happy because he will not stop until you are.

Thanks again guys, Jim and Gabi

Ceiling repair, plaster new walkin closet

Shane helped us finish a closet by having a carpenter colleague do the framing and drywall and then he came and did the plastering. The quality of work is great - the walls are beautifully smooth and once painted will be exactly what I wanted. Shane is busy so patience and reminders are sometimes necessary. He works until the job is done (sometimes late) and came back after finishing to fix a small bit of damage done to the ceiling.

Bathroom

When my wife and I decided to renovate our bathroom while she was 8 months pregnant, we needed people that were timely, and professional. We not only got that with Shane, but the quality of his work is incredible. The bathroom was completed in a day, with no mess, no hassle and no problems. Full recommendation for Shane and company.

Plaster

I first learned of McDermott Plastering by way of an online search. Fast forward one month and the first floor of our 1870 Queen St. W. walk-up is completely redone. The work was on time, on budget and the quality craftsmanship is beyond compare. They are lovely people who treated us like family. I will miss them now that they are gone. But I will be reminded of them each time I admire their exquisite plastering which I am sure to do frequently. Who knew that our walls would be the pride of our home.

Plaster Ceiling Repair

We have an older character home and our plaster ceiling in our kitchen had started to sag recently. Then it went from bad to worse, and a large chunk fell out. Since many sections seemed unstable, we new something had to be done - and done well.

We knew right from meeting Shane that he was the right guy for the job. His knowledge of plastering showed immediately (and as many other posters have commented, that is a very rare thing in Toronto). He outlined the various possibilities, and we went with the one he suggested - plasterboard with a skim coat over top. He arrived when he said he would, he and his assistant worked hard to keep the dust down, and the final job was truly excellent. It is smooth, solid, and miles better than any plain-old drywall would be. The finesse of his skim work was really impressive - I can see how it takes years to master.

I would recommend him to anyone looking for top quality work, from a very talented tradesman, at a reasonable price. If we ever need more plastering work, and authentic lathe plaster at that, we will hire Shane again and know that he will do what it takes to finish the job right.

Plastering & drywall

I phoned 5 plasterers. Two showed up for quoting purposes. Luckily, the one that I went with - Shane from McDermott Plastering was outstanding. At first, I was a little concerned as I met with Shane for the quote and he told me that his brother would do the work. I had good vibes about Shane, but I hadn't met his brother. Turns out that I had nothing to worry about. His brother, Ronan was excellent. I do not hesitate for a moment to highly recommend McDermott plastering. They are the best. They do what say they will, when the say the will and if anything, do more than they promise to do. My tenants were there for the entire time, and were qually delighted with them. They work hard, work well and communicate well. They replaced the plaster in the bathroom with drywall (it was beyond repair) and completely replastered (skimmed) two hallways that had years of layered and crumbling wallpaper mixed with plaster and repaired other walls. I started with only one room, but the quality of their work had me call them back to work on more areas of the home. I consider myself very lucky to have these two work for me and I have a feeling, they'll be too busy when I need them again, once word gets out!

Replaster celings in 4 rooms, and walls in 3 rooms

We called in Shane for a quote and within a few days we put him to work. The job was completed on time and his work exceeded all expectations. As an added service, they swept and vacuumed at the end of everyday to keep the dust to a minimum (the job itself is extremely messy).

Plastering

Tenants had damageds our home including the plaster. We took it as an opportunity to correct some stippled walls and ceilings in our old home. Shane's team arrived and finished on time. It is like a new house. I have called him back twice since.

Plastering

Please be advised that there are some good trades people and there are some great ones. Shane McDermott, I am pleased to say is one of the best trades people I have ever encountered as an employer/customer. I had at one time worked in a field office of a construction company. There I noted that almost all workers were good to excellent at their occupation. Where many failed was in the business of business. Public relations and timeliness were less important to many. You may have already experienced this inconvenience.
Well I have had a wonderful experience with McDermott Plastering. He comes from a family of plasters. His uncle took lessons in Italy. Most family members are part of this business. Shane did what he said he would do when he said it would be done and for the agreed price. ( His price was $ 20 less than his competitor). The workmanship was excellent, the cleanup first class and all this at the agreed rate, ON TIME.
I wish all trades people were this kind of good.

drywall ciling on top storey of Victorian house

Shane and his crew were exemplary, working long extra hours to complete this tricky job which had many odd angles up tot he roof line. It involved carrying loads of drywall up through my home and they were careful at all the turnings of the staircases and of the hanging fixtures. They worked late into the evening several days and always turned up on time. Highly recommend this company.
