John replaced our existing shake roof with asphalt shingles and new rubber gutters.We decided on JMT as they had done other work in our area,were recommended by neighbours and their quote was substantially better than others received.The foreman,Brian,and his crew were efficient,polite and cleaned up well at the end of each day.Very happy with the whole job.

We were in the market of shopping around to have our existing cedar shake roof converted over to asphalt shingles and have our gutters replaced on our recently purchased home. We came to homestars.com and contacted 3 well rated/ reviewed roofing companies to come and provide us with quotes. John at JMT was the only roofer who actually went up on the roof to investigate and told us about the problem areas that needed correcting and how he would fix the problems if he were selected. As for the other two companies, one didn’t even bother to come and see us, just provided us with a quote via email using a software imaging program. The second company came to see us, but didn’t go up on the roof and only talked to us about the products and warranties he offered and used the same software program to estimate cost on the job. Needless to say, we went with John without any hesitation. From the moment we met him, he put us at ease, and we felt we were in very good hands with his “straight shooter”, “calls it as he sees it” attitude. My phone calls were always returned promptly, and any questions we had, John took the time to explain things in detail so that we as homeowners could learn about what was involved and how this could potentially affect things in the process. There is no question about the experience and sheer pride John and his team shares in their work in order to get the job done right.
We had the pleasure of working with Keith as our foreman, who was excellent in communicating with us about how the job was progressing etc. John was on site to ensure the quality of the install as well as checking in with us to see if we were happy and to follow up on whether we had additional questions. The crew were fantastic, they worked very hard, and at the end of each day they took pride in ensuring that the job site was always spotless when they wrapped up for the day. They were always a pleasure to interact with on a daily basis.
The workmanship of the roof and the gutters installation was more than we could possibly hope for. We have no hesitation in recommending JMT to anyone in the market for roofing or gutter services. The crew at JMT have been fantastic to deal with and we couldn’t be more appreciative of all their efforts in helping us turn our new house into a home.

Review of roofing & gutter works

Recently I hired JMT Roofing & Painting INC to convert the 25 year-old cedar roof of my house to asphalt shingle. After removing the old cedar materials etc. , strong plywood boards and new waterproof sheets were added to make the new roof more durable and reliable. Overlapping shingle sheets were then placed & fixed over the entire area. 70 plus high quality progress photos were taken and later compressed into a zipped file and sent to me via an email. I downloaded the file and unzipped it for viewing the photos. I used a free iZip software obtained from Apple Store to do the unzipping work in my iPad. The digital photos have enabled me to see what has been done on the roof of my house without taking the risk of going up onto the roof.

The crew working for the roofing work are very experienced, competent, and hard working. An innovative way of collecting rainwater runoff from two merging sloping roof sections over the main doorway was designed. A special type of waterproofing sheet was torched onto a plywood board to guide any rainwater runoff to fall properly into a new gutter at this location.

The contract also includes the installation of new gutters and rainwater downpipes. The crew has improved the drainage design of rainwater catchment areas over the two levels of my house. Updated new drainage fittings ( funnels & drain guards ) have also been provided to allow easy maintenance to be carried out later on. The gutters were moulded on site and cut to required length so as to provide a smooth surface for efficient flow of rainwater runoff. Some details and impressive benefits are highlighted below:---

(1) Rainwater catchment area: a new rainwater down-pipe at the higher level of the house is now provided at the eastern side of the house instead of the old location in front of the main doorway. With a smaller catchment area for the gutter at the lower level of the house , minor flooding of the gutter in front of the main doorway would be eliminated.

(2a) Funnels located at the connection points of gutters & down pipes :--
under heavy rain conditions, any leaves and dirts carried in the running water of the gutters will be flushed down by a vortex of water in the funnels. Maintaining a clean surface of the gutters will eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitos. Furthermore, clean water in the gutters contains more oxygen , which will discourage the growth of algae.

(2b) Drain guards located near the ground-level ends of rainwater down-pipes: --
Movable rubbish traps are provided in these drain guards. Any leaves & dirts retained in these rubbish traps can be easily and frequently removed. There will then be no more need to hire someone to go up the roof to clean the gutters. These traps will also prevent rubbish from getting into the underground drains.

(3) Impressive technology used in moulding the gutters: --
A large coil of aluminum sheet was kept inside their working vehicle. A machine inside this vehicle was used to unwind the aluminum sheet. During the unwinding process, the aluminum sheet would pass through a system of pulleys and then the moulded gutter would come out of this vehicle. The outside section of this gutter would then be supported by a tripod. When the required length of gutter has been moulded, the technician would cut it for use. For example, a continuous 50 ft length of smooth and straight gutter was moulded in this way. The work is very impressive. Such a gutter will enable rainwater runoff to flow in a trouble-free and efficient way through it.

Conclusion: JMT Roofing and Painting Inc has done a very good job for me. I appreciate the efforts made by their crew.

We were extremely pleased with John and his crew. The service from start to finish was great. John returned all our calls immediately and answered all our questions. Keith and his crew worked from morning till night to get our roof done. The whole team went above and beyond.

We were initially apprehensive about selecting a roofer since I watch a lot of Holmes on Homes and seen all those horror stories and was worried that I would pick the wrong roofing company to do the job. We asked around and got a few quotes and a friend referred us to John at JMT Roofing. I did my own research not wanting to rely solely on someone else's words even though our friend had nothing but great things to say about John and his team. I found out that JMT was rated number 1 on Homestars and so decided to give them a call. I have no knowledge of roofing so had many questions and John took the time to explain why, what, and pros and cons of different materials. I found him honest, direct and genuinely cared about the customer. It was going to be 3 weeks till he could start on my house and since there were a few holes in the roof i expressed my concern about that and asked if it was it was possible if he could start as early as possible. John called me a week later and told me he could squeeze me in. I was so relieved! I was able to reach John via phone everytime I had a question and when I left a message he would return my call immediately. Not only was he competitive in price but he was also professional, explained everything to us in detail, and the actual cost was exactly what he quoted us. Knowing what I know now and being as satisfied as we are if you had told me that JMT's pricing was double what others were charging, I would still choose JMT. Our experience from start to finish was hassle-free, straight-forward, and, in the end, very satisfying! We are already planning a time for John to come back to paint our house for next spring! Thank you John and your team for all your hard work and making this experience so pleasant! We will definitely recommend JMT to others in a heartbeat because I know John and his team will not disappoint!!!

Right from the quote through to completion, absolute professionals, attention to detail, cleanup, And a great crew. Above and beyond. Will recommend to anyone without hesitation. Keith the foreman was excellent in communication , John was on site to ensure quality and followed up upon completion. The crew even fixed a couple of stairs on my deck as they noticed they were rotting, this was done without being part of any contractual obligation, just out of going beyond expectation. My family and I are extremely grateful as choosing the right contractor for any job can be daunting. Thanks again John and staff and we will see you soon for gutter replacement.

They installed the gutters on time and did a great job. There was zero damage to any of our plants in the garden and they did a good clean up
