I first heard about Churchville Contracting while I was completing a landscaping project for my front garden. I had hired Humber Nurseries to plant the trees, shrubs and flowers I purchased from them. During a conversation with one of their landscapers I mentioned that my next project was to renovate the deck in the backyard. I told him that I wanted to do something different and unique and not put up another slapped together three day cedar deck job. He suggested I discuss the job with Jimmy Williams of Churchville Contracting. He told me that Jimmy and his crew of master carpenters have done several unique and difficult pergolas for Humber customers and these types of jobs are their forte.
When I first met Jimmy I was surprised by his youthful appearance but he was very knowledgeable about decks, carpentry and his business. His quote for the work was not the best price I received but I was comfortable with selecting him because he encouraged my original design and even suggested ways to make it even more attractive and unique without adding to the cost. The others who quoted on the job tried to discourage me from anything out of the ordinary and basically wanted to slap together a standard deck.
The project took 6 days to complete. Although extra work came up, we were able to stay on budget. Jimmy and his crew wanted to incorporate some extra details into the design, not as an upsell, but simply because they take pride in their work. Day one was to take the old deck rails, fascia and floor boards apart and away. On day two of the work, I knew I had made a very good decision to hire Churchville Contracting. The original deal was to re-build the deck using the existing joists and perhaps replacing one if it was compromised. Jimmy and his crew not only replaced several rotten joists but they also replaced the main cross beam of three 2 by 10’s nailed together and also added 2 additional joists. The result was that the joists were now 12 inches apart instead of the original 16 inches with a brand new and stronger cross beam. Jimmy did this because he said that he could not build on any platform that wasn’t stable and he didn’t charge me for the extra work. This platform was now as stable as they come.
Once the platform was completed the work moved quickly and smoothly. The deck railing was a unique “X” shaped pattern and Jimmy and his crew incorporated a nice change to round out the corners of the deck and railing which enhanced the architectural look of the deck. They also hid the hardware on the deck using special screws and hid the rail fasteners by putting dowels over top. They finished up by putting in new stairs and covered the sides of the deck with cedar fascia. The finished product was more than I had expected or hoped for. It looked brand new and it looked great. Jimmy and his crew consistently delivered above and beyond my expectations. I can honestly say that the best decision I made this year was to hire Churchville Contracting to turn my battered old cedar deck into an architectural piece which has enhanced my property immensely, both in value and enjoyment.

I read reviews on HomeStars, and decided I wanted to have Churchville Contracting come in for a consultation. Jimmy had a firm understanding of what I wanted done, and delivered exactly what I asked for.

Churchville came in to set the posts for the lattice and arbor, while my landscaper was building our stone patio, and then returned to do the full install after the patio was completed. When the patio was not completed in time, Jimmy had no problem adjusting his schedule. He is very professional, and efficient when working with other trades. The patience and attention to detail Jimmy and his crew possess is incredible. They did a thorough clean-up at the end of the job and even helped move some of my heavy plant pots! I really appreciate how everything came together as I envisioned, not to mention, at a very reasonable price.

I would definitely use Churchville Contracting for future projects.

We have used Churchville Contracting for a few different projects over the years, and their work is always built to last. The most recent piece Jimmy designed for us was a beam and post pergola in our loading area. The cedar 6x6s were notched, and the hardware was all concealed. We have no problem recommending Churchville Contracting to our customers when they have custom carpentry needs.

I live in an older condo downtown Toronto, and I had enough of the tiles in the bathroom, it was time for a facelift. Jimmy met with me, and I explained to him what I wanted. I had been thinking of the renovation for so long; I knew exactly what I wanted. I decided to go with him instead of a different contractor, who was recommended to me, because I felt comfortable having him work in my home, his price was competitive, and he was able to start right away!

He actually met with me to help select my tile, and it’s a good thing he did, because when looking at the selection available, I almost changed my design, but he reminded me of my vision, and the classic white tiles are still exactly what I wanted. During the renovation, there was limited space to work in my condo, but he was very tidy, and careful not to damage anything in his working quarters. He also showed up on time every day, and was able to work within the restrictions put forth by my condo. I would gladly hire Jimmy to do work for me in the future.

Custom Fence

Churchville Contracting was extremely professional from our first consultation, right through to the completion of my custom fence. When Jimmy first came in, I wasn’t sure what I wanted, all I knew is I needed something to block my neighbour’s unkempt property, and I didn’t want an ordinary fence. He clearly explained the idea he had in mind, showed me some pictures, and together, we created a custom design which met my needs.

I had just finished my pattern concrete driveway and landscaping, so I wanted a company I could trust to be courteous to the lily’s which were planted along the fence line. They actually placed drop sheets down on the driveway to ensure it was not damaged while they worked, and they continued to work when the weather turned inclement in order to finish my fence on schedule. Jimmy was very knowledgeable, and his attention to detail left me comfortable working while he did. All in all, I could not be happier with the quality of work, I would recommend Churchville Contracting to anyone who has a carpentry project to be completed.

Kitchen, Mantel, Main Floor Renovation

"I hired Churchville Contracting to do the renovation on my main floor (kitchen, fireplace mantle, and floors), because I felt confident in their quality of work, and professionalism. They had done work on my colleague’s house, so I had a decent idea of what to expect from them.

My objective was to create a tie between rustic and contemporary. Jimmy explained to me the issues and limitations of the metal framing and concrete floor/ceiling in my condo, and provided me with alternatives to achieve the look I was going for. Thank goodness for his knowledge and creativity, I am certain there would have been serious complications had I hired a less experienced contractor.

Jimmy’s creativity, style and understanding of building codes, was crucial when designing my custom mantle. I wanted a floating mantle made of reclaimed barn board, and a birch bark wall. Although the carpenters had not worked with birch bark before, they were able to lay it out into a beautiful herring bone pattern, and it looks absolutely amazing above the mantel. I had no hesitations letting Jimmy and company use their artistic visions to do what they could with the limited supply of barn board which I provided to them. I was provided with a schedule for when each trade would be in my condo, and when they would be completed. Not only were all of the trades licensed and respectful, they were punctual and efficient as well. All in all, they stuck to their budget and timeline without sacrificing quality. It was a pleasure working with Churchville Contracting."
