I have an older semi in the West End of the GTA.
I'd been wanting to do a complete gut of the 2nd floor bathroom as it was quite dated and had an awkward layout that needed to be redone. I researched the process quite a bit and got quotes from a number of different contractors.
Mario / Luxor had by far had the presentation and proposal. He's been in this business a long time and has a really good feel for how the process was going to unfold. From his initial visit, he saw potential obstacles but also ways to adjust and find solutions. It instilled confidence in me as I wanted someone who knew the process and how to get the desired result.
The process was (relatively) painless, and took literally exactly the 2 weeks he told me. Mario was on sight almost every day, keeping me updated about things and letting me know about the progress. Note my house is an older one, so it isn't quite as simple as newer cookie-cutter developments and there were some definite quirks to it that had to be worked around. He also had another long-term employee (10+ years working alongside him) there every day fulltime who could deal with everything. It is not like some operators who literally have a changing cast of characters every week. Reliable, trustworthy, hard-working, and pretty good value for your money are words that come to mind. I'm pleased with how things turned out.
Every day on site, Mario and his employee were respectful, left the job site and staging area clean each evening, and did their best to minimize the inconvenience of the renovation process.
There were cheaper quotes that I got, but the way things were presented, it was almost like necessary things like tile, toilet, vanities, etc were not included in the figure. With Mario / Luxor, you also know you are getting a company that has been in this business for a long time. To me, it was almost scary when some contractors would propose me e-transfering significant sums of money to Gmail accounts to begin the process. Maybe they are legit, maybe they aren't.....I just didn't want to have to find out the hard way.
I'd gladly do it again with him. In fact....if the economy would ever come out of this COVID nosedive, I have a bigger project at this house that I will undertake with him.
