S&Sons was the most realistic moving company I've come across. They told us the fee per hour, told us what would make for the fastest move (making sure everything is packed, bringing everything to a central main floor location, pre-wrapping... although they did all of this for the items we were not able to.) Their quote was likely going to be 6 hours, and we added a whole bunch of baby furniture to the move in the interim. It came in at 9 hours. The folks were friendly and worked non-stop.

We weren't thrilled at all with the service provided by S&Sons. Their quote was competitive - $1200 ... which they assured us was "the very high end" of the possible range - and they offered free boxes (which you had to return). The free boxes - which you had to pay for up front - were old worn dirty boxes. We mostly found/bought other boxes anyway.

The real dissatisfaction came with cost of the move itself. The promised 4 men never showed up - so we had 3. They reduced the hourly rate - but not by much (from $140 to $120). The truck they brought wasn't big enough so we had to pay extra for another one to be brought over. The quote of $1200 became $1900 - and it had to be cash or they wouldn't unload. They said if they made realistic bids no one would hire them because the bid would be higher than their competitors.

They said we hadnt packed properly - that we should have prewrapped all the furniture with cellophane. That we should have moved all the boxes to the main floor etc etc. We believed that was all implied as 'their job' and included in their bid. It was in the competitors.

On the positive side - they showed up on time, they worked hard, there was minimal damage done to our stuff ... they were clean and polite.

Moving day is never fun!
