Sarah, of Sarah Kidder Design, is an lovely, talented designer! We had interviewed many other business owners and when we found Sarah Kidder Design (SKD) we were delighted with Sarah's responsiveness and warmth. From the first moment onward she was able to determine our design sense (when we were unaware that we had any) and our needs. SKD saved us so much time, energy and needless mistakes. She also saved us money! We are very happy with the results and will work with SKD for our next project. She is honest, and an excellent communicator. We highly recommend Sarah Kidder Design.

We were looking for an affordable interior decorator with a modern/contemporary style, someone who would move beyond the traditional or flounces. We were on a tight budget and were looking for someone to partner with about ideas rather than someone who just takes over. Someone that could help turn our house into a home not a showplace.

Enter Sarah Kidder. Creative and charismatic defines Sarah Kidder from day to day. She understands how to decorate for real life with kids, and we’re thrilled with what she's done for us.

Sarah helped us transform our new house into a warm, inviting and cozy home that looks terrific. We wanted lots of new furniture but Sarah also worked with pieces we already had. Sarah mixes the old and the new in her designs with an emphasis on functionality. She has a great eye for color and style, is cost-conscious, and really easy to work with. She really knows how to help you figure out what you want and then to make it happen in a timely and cost effective way. We can't say enough good things about her! In addition to interior decoration, she is an artist AND an organizer, so she brings a lovely bundle of skills to the table.

Her key strengths: 1. Great eye: she is creative and inventive, can see lovely combinations of color, texture and arrangements that "click" in terms of practical purpose and aesthetics. She will look at what you have and help you maximize the effect of existing pieces, and help you envision what might complement them.

2. Great ear: she is a fabulous listener, gets to know your priorities, and helps you establish not just surface order but also living habits and patterns to help you maintain that order. Maybe that's the key to a "home-not-a-showplace" -- the beauty and calm have to withstand the test of kids whirling through and busy tired people keeping it in place.

3. Flexible, non-judgmental, easy to work with: Having just bought a new home, we didn't want to spend an arm and a leg. After a free initial phone consultation Sarah suggested options for proceeding in the most optimal and cost-effective ways for us. She has pointed us to vendors/sources (and we can either choose to buy ourselves, or she will help us purchase). She will find ideas at all sorts of places, from designer furniture shops to thrift stores. She never shamed us for being slobs or too busy etc. so we could instead focus on doing the best we could to get our home in order. We both agree that our time with Sarah has been well worth every penny, with immediate returns on sanity and satisfaction. Best of all is the feeling of finally truly enjoying our home.

BONUS: Her non-judgmental style helped us negotiate sticking points. We didn't have huge budgets so working with someone who can creatively provide inspiration from across a wide range of mid-range (ie. Upper Room, Pier 1) to lower-range (ie. IKEA,etc.) was great.

Sarah's sense of style is just fantastic -- but she also really listens, and worked to help us express ourselves in our home. We could not recommend her more highly. She has done an impeccable job with us -- very high quality, but also laid back, reasonably priced, efficient, and just so very cool! She'll make you look like you've got it going on! We downsized into a 623 sq ft condo and Sarah made it so calm and comfortable for us. The wall colour, modern lamps, blinds, art choices..who knew I could love a red carpet! We were so pleased that we asked her to help us with our new home we are building in the Gatineaus. The tile choices have been inspiring, the bathrooms look great and the kitchen is fantastic! Sarah listens to what you think you want, adds her magic and gives you something beyond your expectations.

I am a busy mom with 3 young kids and have no time for decorating or shopping. Sarah Kidder saved the day! She took our big empty living room and transformed it into what is now my favourite room in the house! She worked within our budget, incorporated the few sentimental pieces we owned, then planned, sourced and budgeted everything - paint colours, window treatments, fabrics, cushions, sofa, chairs, tables, ottoman, rug, even suggestions for artwork placement, etc.

We couldn't be more pleased with how it all turned out. We always get compliments on the decor.

Great banquette, cushions with carefully chosen fabrics, the perfect table and chandelier, plus accessories I never would have selected but that really complete the look. Sarah is very knowledgeable and very pleasant to work with.

Sarah helped me choose countertop, backsplash, flooring and colours (walls and cabinets) for my kitchen reno, as well as new colours for a few bedrooms. For months, before the work was actually started, all I had were the small samples she left me. I tried visualizing the end result in my head and I thought I could see that it would look nice. But to see it now, completed, it's simply stunning, so much more beautiful than I was ever able to imagine. She has amazing vision. I love my new kitchen!

We met Sarah at the Home Show in the spring of 2011 and felt an immediate connection.

We had the great fortune of recently meeting Sarah at the Home & Design Show. From the get-go, we found Sarah knowledgeable, interested, sincere, dedicated, talented, perceptive, pleasant and a true gem.
Sarah helped us confirm some kitchen ideas; shed light on other areas we had not thought of; and was invaluable in helping us pick out our backsplash - by doing the legwork and hand picking a variety of options, for us to consider. Together, we decided on something we would not have chosen on our own & which we will be extremely happy with.
Decorating can be a very taxing experience, in having to make so many decisions, which are costly to change - if you are unhappy with the results. Sarah has helped us in choosing colours and styles we know we will enjoy for many, many years to come.

Sarah did a wonderful job trying to find a new backsplash to replace an old that did not suit a new granite counter top that we had installed. She took time to understand our concerns and develop an all-inclusive plan that took into account our current colour palettes, textures, floor plan layout, etc. The end result finally pulled all the elements of our kitchen, and home, together which for so long had looked very piece-meal.

Sarah guided me through this process respectfully but but firmly. She took the time to fully understand my tastes and vision, incorporated my preferences when reasonable but did not hesitate to tell me when I was pushing for a design 'error". She is imaginative, creative but at the same time practical and very grounded. She painted and moved furniture and put up shelves when the situation demanded. a hands-on intervention
We made major purchases which provide the structure of the transformation. These included a stunning room length valance; new blinds and drapes, granite and quartz counters for the kitchen and bar/island, a jazzy back splash and a beautiful stainless steel and glass chandelier and fan. These choices were made to coordinate and intergrate with my existing furniture and rugs so that the fiinal presentation worked seamlessly together. and the colours flowed throught the areas. She worked her designer magic with many small inexpensive touches and purchases but always incorporating additionally my treasured mementos and family photographs, so the ultimate result felt like 'home" as well as looking spectacular.
