M&R Roofing

Our home has a flat roof that was desperately in need of attention. The drainage system was poorly designed and water was ponding starting to cause problems indoors. We called M&R after receiving a referral and looking at Homestars reviews. The same evening we had a meeting scheduled with an estimator the next business day and received a detailed quote within 3 days along with inspection photos loaded into a shared document repository for collaboration during the project. We provided the go ahead to commence work and had significant rain delays. Marcin and Mark were responsive and proactive in setting and resetting our expectations as the days went by and we eventually had good weather to start the project. We had a few surprises during the roof teardown which were dealt with swiftly and processionally by Marcin & Mark. The roofing crew, had additional work to and worked diligently from early morning to sunset on a few days to ensure our roof was waterproof prior to the next phase of bad weather. They returned to complete the job when they said they would and in some cases earlier than we had expected. We usually approach new contractors cautiously since we have had some previous experiences that were not favourable. Not the case with M&R. We found their crew friendly, knowledgeable and there was nothing they we asked for that couldn't be done. In short, they were very customer focused and probably the reason they have very good ratings on this service. They took adequate precaution to prevent damage during the construction and attended to all damages without question. During the project they had good ideas for solutions and listened patiently as we worked through our questions (there were many). We now have a roof that gives us piece of mind and will not hesitate recommending them to anyone. Thanks to the M&R team for a great job.

Our condo building hired M&R Roofing to replace the roof on our three buildings in downtown Toronto. This was an especially challenging assignment because the building is five stories tall, the roofs are sharply peaked, and there is very limited access due to the properties adjacent to the buildings. We tendered the job to a number of roofing companies, all with good credentials from our managing engineering firm. Most declined to response and we received only a handful of bids. Of these, M&R had by far the best price (well below that of all other bids) and a sound plan for getting the work done. The job indeed was very challenging, but was done on time and on budget, and the workmanship was excellent. The crew were very mindful of the property and cleaning up at the end of each work day. The new roof is excellent, and they promised to come back and fix any subsquent problems. They made good on this promise about nine months later when a small leak was found by a skylight - they came the next day and fixed the problem. These guys are great and we would highly recommend them.

M&R did a great job on replacing two flat roofs and deck. Very professional work, good value and they came and talked us through every part of the job, including some unexpected problems along the way. Best of all, they definitely went the extra mile when we still had a leak after they had replaced one of the roofs, even though it wasn't their fault. They ended up taking out our glass door and re-installing it with a roofing material extended to go underneath it since it was the door that was leaking, not the roof. So basically a whole day extra spent here with a team of guys after they thought they had finished just so we could be sure of no leaks. The only downside is they are super busy so they are not always easy to get hold of, but that's not unusual with roofing companies and M&R will always get back to you eventually. I would definitely recommend.

I just recently purchased a house in the Danforth and am currently renting it out. I found a leak in the house which was caused by the roof. This was the last thing that I wanted to deal with. I had a few different companies come out to the house to give me quotes for my flat roof. Of all the companies I spoke to, M&R roofing gave me the best quote of them all. Not only was the price better than the companies that I spoke to, they also sent me an extensive file with pictures of my roof and what all the issues were. This was the best decision that I made.
Not only did M&R Roofing do an excellent job on fixing the flat roof, they also did this in a timely manner. They sent me after pictures showing the excellent work that they have done. What I loved about the company was that Mark & Marcin were always answering your calls and questions that you have. Due to certain circumstances I was unable to be at the house while they were working on it. They were so great to deal with and I had no worries. It was nice to work with a company that was trustworthy. When an issue came up Mark went back and dealt with the problem. I would highly recommend M&R Roofing to others.

My partner and I have been restoring a 130 year old Victorian in Toronto's South Annex for the past four years and we ran into our share of good and bad contractors along the way; thankfully we found a superb roofing company that went above and beyond our expectations.

My partner and I met with half a dozen companies before deciding to go with Marcin at M&R Roofing. Marcin was the only contractor to physically go up onto our roof and inspect what needed to be done when he came out for the initial meeting. He spent a good amount of time helping us decide what was the best approach to construct a new front roof on our home. The quote he provided us was detailed, thorough, and like no other we have ever seen in the industry. If contractors provided quotes half as good as M&R, we would all be in a lot better shape.

Upon installation, his staff were friendly and very knowledgable. The work they did was truly outstanding. Marcin helped us find the right materials, helped us match the colours of both the metal roof and eaves/downspouts, and worked closely with us and Toronto Heritage Preservation Services to design something that worked well with the aesthetic of the home.

We had requested some minor adjustments after the majority of work was completed. M&R had one of their most experienced guys sent out right away to meet me at the home and adjust a few small details. M&R followed up with my partner and I to make sure we were 100% satisfied with the entire job. Suffice to say, we are very pleased with the work and service from this company!

Marcin is quick to respond to emails and phone calls and takes his time with clients to ensure everything gets addressed. M&R sent us photos of the completed work in the end. You know a company has an investment in their work when they send someone out to photograph it in the end. We will definitely be using M&R for all our roofing jobs in the future and will be recommending them to family and friends.

We hired M&R Roofing in May 2015 to replace both our flat roof and shingled roof and replace an eaves trough. After getting estimates from 8 companies, we decided to go with M&R as they provided a very detailed estimate and were very cost efficient. Unfortunately their customer service was not consistent throughout the project with issues around communication, managing expectations and scheduling. We were advised upfront that they were very busy and that our project would be scheduled when possible which we accepted. When the job was scheduled, we were given less than a day notice of the start date of our project but we accepted that given weather uncertainty and staffing issues that were explained to us. The flat roof work was not completed on the first day due to unforeseen extensive wood rot which delayed the work but it was then difficult to confirm a time for completion of the flat roof as I was originally told the next day and then it kept on being put off. I had to make contact with the company several times to ask when this work would be completed as they weren’t proactive in providing this information. After a discussion with the owner, I requested better communication around scheduling for the remainder of the project so that I could plan my time accordingly. After completion of the job I proactively requested an invoice but was not given one until one month later and was then advised that as “the work had been done quite some time ago” payment will be required ASAP. I requested photos to see the completed work and although these photos were eventually provided, I was told that this was not standard (even though I had asked for photos before the job commenced and there was no indication that this was unusual or that this would be an issue). When the job was completed and paid for, I was informed that a part of the job had been missed and needed to be completed. The outstanding work was completed but again I had to follow up to confirm that the work had been done as I wasn’t advised. From the photos that we have seen and from what I can see of the roof from the ground, we are happy with the completed work and we were happy with the way the workers conducted themselves while they were on the premises. It’s just unfortunate that the lack of communication and generally poor customer service caused a lot of unnecessary frustration which negatively overshadowed the entire project.

Towards the end of 2015 I bought a commercial property in cottage country (Bobcaygeon). I'm from Toronto but jumped on a good opportunity to get a rental property where I have my cottage. The property was vacant for over 3 years so the roof was in poor condition and developed a leak. I got quotes from a few different local roofers however none of them provided me with a sense of comfort (that's cottage country contractors for you!). I knew of M&R as they are based near my Toronto home and have seen their vans throughout the city so I decided to get in touch with them. Although M&R's quote was not the cheapest it was quite competitive, but what I was most impressed with was Marcin's highly detailed and informative quote and explanations. This gave me the comfort I wanted as I knew exactly what I was going to get upfront. The best part was they were willing to come to Bobcaygeon to help me out. I do believe you get what you pay for and cheapening out on a roof is not a wise move (especially with harsh winters in cottage country). M&R showed up when they said and the job took 4 days overall, one day longer then expected but to me that meant they did not rush (the guys came back on the Friday to handle finishing touches). I really appreciate Peter's (metal worker) job as he took his time working some intricate details - the metal work and flashing throughout and new eaves trough system look spectacular. I appreciate that Mark called me immediately to discuss a potential issue after the old roof was torn off and offered up solutions. Jordan and the rest of the crew (forgot their names) did a great job keeping the site clean and worked quickly and efficiently. Yes, I checked up on them regularly and they were always working. They even replaced an old chimney stack/hot pipe without me even asking for it so that was a nice surprise. Overall, the job went smoothly without any issues and the new roof not only looks fantastic, but the leak is gone and it is warmer inside partly because of the extra insulation added. The way my roof ties into the neighbour's roof required a lot of detail-oriented work and finesse which the guys executed well. I do not hesitate to recommend M&R and thank you for the great work and coming up to Bobcaygeon!

The team at M&R was professional from start to finish. Mark and Marcin always picked up the phone; their teams arrived when they said they would be there; and the worksite was always clean and clear at the end of each day they were on the job. Mark, who managed the project, was great to work with and never hesitated to make good any/all deficiencies - most of which were minor. I understand that their success has meant some delays in their being able to get to some new projects as quickly as they would like to, but I would argue that their professionalism and work quality is worth being patient for. While a small adjustment is still needed to our eaves and downspout, I have no doubt they will be back to fix it. I rate the work of M&R as very good and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Got seven quotes and a lot of sales pitches. M&R gave me information and no hard sell. Quote was slightly above the median. Slight issues with scheduling and billing but nothing more than a minor nuisance. I would recommend and use them again.

This company actually cares about their reputation in the marketplace, which is very rare in this business. And you know what, that is why we hired them off Homestars in the first place. But you never know how it will turn out when you hire any contractor. We do feel comfortable that they will be around should we need them back for any repairs in the future. That gives me piece of mind. Definite pride in workmanship.
