100+ year old Victorian Reno - Kitchen, 2 bathrooms,...

This was the first time that we were undertaking extensive renovations and had never worked with a contractor before. Thankfully, working with Trent was a wonderful and hassle-free experience. He and his crew had a great attitude and always went above and beyond for us. This was important as we moved into the house a few weeks before the project was completed and I was already 8 months pregnant.

Communication - Trent always made sure to keep us updated on the project's progress. Although we had a designer as the overall project manager, we quickly realized that dealing directly with Trent was the way to go. With a 100+ year old home, we had many surprises but Trent managed them very well.

Budgeting - All of Trent's costs were very reasonable particularly for the quality of work that he does. He was fair and always tried to find ways to cut costs while not sacrificing quality.

Overall we were very pleased with our experience and have already recommended him to friends.

Condo Floors, Bathroom, Kitchen Backsplash and fixtures, painting

Condo Renovation in Annex. Trent and his workers turn up when they say they are going to turn up and stay with the job until it is done. If Trent's workers are here, and he is going to be slightly late for a meeting, he phones to let you know. Trent also returns phone calls quickly if he cannot answer immediately. Final costs as agreed to. Floor Work: Pre-existing stone tiles(hall), carpet(living room and den) and two layers of vinyl flooring(kitchen) removed and replaced with underpadding and engineered wood flooring. Kitchen: kitchen cabinets, bulk head, all appliances and sink removed (kitchen company put in new cabinets and countertop); Trentco installed mosaic tile backsplash, new sink, faucet, refrigerator and dishwasher, additional electrical outlets and new overhead lights, and various fixtures. Altered small wall to accommodate new refrigerator. Bathroom: removed old bathroom floor tile, shower surround, vanity, toilet and linen closet; installed new floor to ceiling marble tiles throughout, new vanity with new sink and faucet and marble counter, new toilet and linen closet, new wall mirror, new thermostatic control in bath/shower and new bathroom fixtures. Soundproofed wall in bedroom, new electrical outlet in den, adjusted wall in hall and installed sliding and bifoldal mirrored doors. Repainted throughout condo. Trent tries to save the homeowner money. He found the exact same mosaic tile for me at a couple of dollars a foot cheaper and passed the saving on to me. Trent and his team are also very good at making adjustments to fixtures which I ordered elsewhere and which needed tweaking in order to fit on walls, etc. They are also very pleasant to work with and Trent is always cheerful and sure any problems can be solved(which they were). Work, except for a couple of minor items and two doors which I had ordered through "big box stores" and which came late, finished when expected. The only reason I did not give a "10" was because sometimes, for minor items, they will go ahead without checking, for example, which "white" I want for the trim, and because sometimes, if either you or they suggest changes, you have to make sure to check who is paying any additional cost. But these are minor squibbles. Many thanks to the homeowners who gave the great reviews. (Please note cost includes appliances and materials.)

What could this company do to improve their services?
Double-check before any additional work is done that the home-owner knows what, if any, will be the cost of the additional work. Check before any work, even if minor, is done that the paint, etc., is what is agreed upon or that the homeowner does not care. Clear their equipment out of the way as soon as they can. They were fairly good at keeping all their equipment altogether but I had to insist sometimes that certain items I needed (e.g., kitchen table) were available, or that if they moved it around in a certain way, then it would be much better for me. Could be as simple as moving a heavy object so it did not cover an electrical outlet.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Ask contractor for their licence number, liability insurance amount and company. Several contractors told me they had a licence number, but then seemed reluctant to give it to me. No problem with Trentco which is one of the reasons I hired them. I made a fairly detailed list of everything I wanted done so I could compare "apples with apples", eliminate any particular items if they were more money than I thought they were worth, and so I did not have to suddenly ask contractor to do extra work that came to much more. In future, instead of just saying install fixtures, I would list all the fixtures so even clearer.

Renovation of basement, kitchen, etc. at 120 years old Heritage house

We found Trent on homestars. We had been disappointed with the way the contractors that our friends and neighbours recommended handled the quoting process. We were looking for someone we could trust; someone we could work with; someone who would be responsive to our needs, flexible, reasonable and with a strong customer-service orientation. We are very happy we decided to go with Trent.

Trent is always joyful and upbeat. As I work mainly from my home office, this turned out to be an important characteristic. Indeed, I was looking forward each day to have Trent come over.

Our home being a heritage house, Trent and his crew had to deal with plenty of challenges – nothing was square, every part of the project brought a fair amount of surprises. The basement in particular was tricky. Trent found a way to deal with each of the numerous “curve balls” that our house sent at him, keeping us very well informed and involved throughout the process.

Trent is a man of his words. He often says that what matters most to him is to ensure his clients are happy. Most definitely, he backs-up his statement with his deeds.

Also, Trent was very good at keeping the additional work (i.e. the “extras”) within our budget, always proposing ways to minimize the cost.

We are looking forward to our next renovation project with Trent, and we would strongly recommend him to anyone looking for a trustworthy, client-focused contractor in Toronto!

Install attic access hatch

Trent came highly recommended through a network of friends. We had a small job that we needed done in a timely manner - building an access hatch into our attic space. The hatch was built in our infant son's closet, so dust and mess containment were extremely important to us.

Even though this was a small job, Trent treated the job and us with respect and phenomenal attention to detail. He is the tidiest contractor we have ever hired. His prices were very fair, he always called to let us know his daily arrival time, finished all the work on time, and was a great, friendly, and very respectfully person.

It's such a relief to have finally found a contractor in Toronto who we feel we can trust to provide fair quotes, excellent work, and a friendly persona to boot!

Renovation of 97 year old home

Our home renovation was huge and at times overwhelming. Three floors were demolished, completely renovated. Walls and heat vents moved, a bathroom expanded and re-built, new plumbing, insulation, wiring, closets. New at this, we were nervous with our lack of renovating knowledge and being on a tight budget. From the beginning, Trent was patient, going through this process step by step with us both each day. We very quickly grew to trust Trent's work and recomendations. For over a month, he was always on time, friendly and maticulous of his work and others. Trent completed our renovation on schedule even with us adding on extra work. Our house looks amazing, we are so pleased and have recommended Trent to our friends. We will happily call Trent again in the future. Thank you Trent!

New Basement Bathroom

Two years ago Trent built us a backyard deck and we were so pleased that we called him back to build a new bathroom in our basement. It turned out beautifully and we are thrilled! It was a big job as there was no existing plumbing and due to it being an older home, there were some unforseen obstacles that Trent handled remarkabley well. He was very understanding when we asked him to change a few things or even when we added extra work that put him behind schedule! Because we felt confident in his abilities, we asked him to install a hot water radiant heated floor which is fantastic! What impressed me most about Trent is his consideration for you as the homeowner. He always arrived at the scheduled time and if he was running late, he would call to let you know. He is very meticulous and pays attention to detail. His aim is to make sure you are pleased with the way things are going. I would highly recommend Trent and I have already asked him to come back to do some more work on our house!

Bathroom Reno

Trent is an excellent contractor. He came to our house in 2006 to update and spruce up our small ensuite bathroom. This involved removing old flooring, removing an old bathtub, installing a new whirlpool bathtub, removing and reinstalling wall tiles, installing a new ceiling fan where none had existed, removing an old medicine cabinet and re-installing a new one on a different wall as well as all the requisite plumbing and electrical work that goes along with the job. He is a very conscientious worker who always comes to work with a smile, outlines the goals he has for the day and then cleans up before he leaves at night. Trent was always careful about cleanliness and the first thing he did was put up plastic wrapping to contain the mess and dust to the bathroom and away from the bedroom. Trent is not one who thinks he can tackle any job by himself and brought in a licensced electrician to complete and oversee all electrical wiring jobs that were required. At the end of the job, we had a beautiful new bathroom and a pleasant experience working with Trent.

Basement renovation, mudroom renovation and many tips

I had a unfinished basement when I got the house. There were wires hanging down and no insulation. Trent came in from another reccomendation and he was awesome. What mattered to me as the first time home buyer was cost and punctuality. He finished the whole basement - made a living unit by changing the electrical panel, putting insulation, putting in a new kitchen, bulk heading the ducts -and when it was finished, it was a very nice - my idea was to rent the place and within the week he finished I had a tenant. This guy is very hardworking, (he worked until 2am in the morning to finish the job), very professional, very punctual and very clean.

I would recommend to anyone in a heart beat and I would be very happy to provide any kind of reference about him.

Bathromm gut and reno

By moving the tub wall 18" into the adjoining bedroom, and by also moving the doorway over 18", a full size vanity could be installed replacing the inefficient pedestal sink. The small, hallway linen closet was incorporated to give lots of extra storage. Trent did an awesome job translating my wishes and ideas into this room and aside from a couple decorative touches I need to do, the room is done. Trent has a great eye for detail and is meticulous in his work. I will definatley call him when it's time to do the kitchen!
