Knob and tubes rewiring and panel update

I got Antonio and his crew to rewire my whole house, remove all the knobs and tubes and upgrade my panel from 60 to 100 amps. The price he quoted seemed reasonable and the work they did was impeccable. I was worried about the amount of damage they would do to the walls since my house is over 60 years old and the walls are plaster. They did very few holes and did a very good job patching them. They showed up on time and worked till 7pm every day. They cleaned everything every day before they left and made sure I had electricity and light at all time. They were very polite and provided great advise on where to put plugs and switches. They were very attentive to avoid any inconveniences. I wished all my experiences with contractors went this smoothly. I would strongly recommend Java Electric. Thanks again Antonio.

Electrical - removal of knob and tube wiring

I have an century home (built in 1895) that needed a lot of rewiring. While some work, including the electrical panel, had been completed, the most difficult work remained. Because most of my walls are plaster, I didn't wan't to have too many holes made, as it would be very dusty and the patching a nightmare. However, I had a lot of knob and tube to be replaced, and new ceiling fixtures to be added.

Because I knew this was going to be an expensive job, I had several quotes done. Most of the quotes were local (I live in Hamilton), but because Java's reviews were so glowing, I thought I should call to see if they would provide services in my area. Antonio came by for a quote, which was impressive for the pricing (which was pretty much in the middle, despite the travel). More importantly, I felt very comfortable with Antonio. His honesty and professionalism was very apparent. And, unlike many of the other electricians, Antonio was able to reassure me that his staff would be able to fish the wiring through the walls with minimal damage, and any holes made would be patched.

True to his word, his staff did a wonderful job. They were punctual and professional, and cleaned up everyday. They did the wiring, and also installed smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. They were very accommodating about adding extra outlets when asked, and Antonio arranged for an electrical inspection once the work was completed. They clearly take pride in their work, which was impeccable.

Probably one of the best tests of a company is how they react when things don't go according to plan. There was a small accident with a glass being broken (it was fragile and very easy to break), and Java took full responsibility - not only did they offer to pay for the repair right away, but Antonio also researched where I could go to minimize the work I had to do. We were very impressed with how they dealt with this.

It's now been a few months when Java completed the work, and I still couldn't be happier. Java Electrical is very busy, but definitely worth the wait! Book them if you can!

What could this company do to improve their services?
Nothing - they are top-notch!
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Definitely get several quotes and check references. Ask about their experience in doing similar work, and how they plan on approaching the job. If you're able to hire Java, do that!

Potlight installation

Antonio and his crew were extremely professional, skilled, good-humoured and very reasonably priced. Antonio installed 4 potlights for us. Since there was no power source in that location, they had to bring a new connection from the main box in the basement. They took the time to bring that connection without making any holes in the wall or floor. It was like magic. Antonio also took the time to make sure that the potlights were placed in the best position for the room, taking into account various considerations that we would never have thought of. We had originally wanted 6 potlights but because the edge of the ceiling was directly under a sloping roof, it could have been unsafe to place the potlights close to insulation (specialized potlights are needed for that). Antonio explained all of this to us and we really appreciated his honestly and patience. Even with the 4 potlights it was so bright (we use the dimmer to adjust as needed). Antonio uses Contrast Pot-Lighting which is Canadian-made - something that we liked. Antonio also installed a chandeleir into a better location for us without charge, which was very generous of him. All in all, we cannot say enough great things about Antonio and his crew. I have already told my friends that if they need a licensed master electrician, they should call Antonio from Java Electric because he is expert in what he does, is a lovely person and will charge a very fair price. (This is the first time I have whole-heartedly recommended any tradesperson to my friends). We love our new potlights and the chandeleir. Thank you so much Antonio for everything. Oh yes, and I must add that the crew were extremely punctual and left everything super clean!

Electrical Work

I took down a ceiling fan in a spare bedroom that had an extra power wire so that the fan would work when the light was turned off. I had trouble putting a new light up. My wife first called a well known "on tv" electrical company that we had used previously. They said it would take at least 5 hours and with old homes you would probably have to rewire the whole house.....We called Java they came and changed it along with another fan and grounded 3 plugs in an hour and half. Java was quick, knowledgable, professional and gave a much more realistic estimate. As other reviewers have mentioned, if you are interested in electrical work he doesn't mind you watching and telling you what he is doing.

Complete re-wire of mainfloor 1920s bungalow

I have used Antonio on my last house for a cleanup of some old wiring. He did a great job very quickly and neatly. He gave an estimate for the job which was reasonable and he actually charged less than he anticipated! Of course I used his company when I moved to my new house (this time it was Laureano who did the work). I am very pleased with the work which I was able to observe as it was in progress. They worked nights and on the weekend to fit my job in between larger projects. I have no complaints at all and am impressed with the cleanliness neatness and the polite, professional and friendly attitude of everyone that I dealt with at Java. I receommend them to anyone.

Kitchen Renovation

I had to add 2 potlights to a kitchen and 2 new pendant lights over a breakfast bar. Being handy, I fully expected to perform the work myself. I learned two things very quickly; the floor joists above as well as an HVAC duct, ABS and pex lines for the ensuite above ran right down the middle of the kitchen ceiling. I knew I needed to call a professional.

I first contacted some of the higher rated electricians on HomeStars and most were very busy; some asked me to wait a month for a quote! I called a few local electricians and they all said I would need to cut out the ceiling to avoid major damage. I even went back to the electricians who worked on my house and they agreed! Not satisfied, I revisited HomeStars and contacted Java. Antonio agreed to come out the next day to provide a quote. The price was not only considerably lower than just about everyone else, he assured me he would not cut into the ceiling! While Antonio was in our home, I mentioned to him I had to hang a very large chandelier in the foyer and he offered to bring his big A-frame ladder so I could borrow it. How could I say no to that?!?! We booked him for the reno and agreed to a date and time to begin.

When Antonio and Laureano arrived, Antonio insisted on NOT starting the work we hired him for until he assisted me with the chandelier first (which I was supposed to install myself!). Once the chandelier was hung, he and Laureano began working in the kitchen; that's when I realized Java was not your typical electrical company. They were more like magicians the way they completed the project.

Not only was I impressed with the expertise of both Antonio and Laureano, I was blown away by their professionalism and manners. They involved me in every step of the process, teaching me a few tricks about electrical work. They went over every detail to ensure we were happy along the way. By the time they left, they felt more like family than two strangers who were in our home to provide a service.

Our kitchen was stunning before we added the additional lighting, but now that we were able to accomplish our reno without damaging the ceiling, our kitchen is even better and I am certain there are not many people out there who can do what Java did.

I can honestly say we expecting to pay a lot more for the reno considering how much effort was involved and where most companies were less eager to take on the project, Java was more concerned with our happiness and the end result than anything else. This alone is the reason you should be contacting Java for ALL your electrical needs.

We're already looking forward to having Antonio and Laureano over for our next project!

Thank you so much guys. You truly are amazing!

installing GFI plugs X4, ceiling fan, ceiling light, rewiring switch/plug

I found Antonio to be extremely professional, prompt, courteous, conscientious, and fair. He took the time to review our home and the specific concerns we had, and took the time to explain what services would really be necessary; we thought more work would be necessary than there really was! I was very comfortable with Antonio's review, and estimate of services which would be needed.
When the date came for Antonio to come and complete the work, he and his assistant were both friendly and professional, taking the time to answer some further questions. When the jobs were completed, they were careful to ensure each workspace was neatly cleaned, and demonstrated how each project functioned properly.
Antonio would be my first choice for any future electrical jobs.

Changing light fixtures

I called Java Electric and they came by the next day for an estimate. Their estimate was very reasonable and they were ready to work that day however I had other committments. They came by the next day and they arrived 10 minutes early. They changed 11 light fixtures and installed a stove hood in 3 hours which was an hour less than the estimated 4 hours. They were extremely patient as I didn't have all the required light bulbs. They supplied 2 bulbs for the stove hood, at no charge. They improvised when one of the motion light fixtures was too high to fit over the garage. I was very satisfied with their work and professionalism and will definitely refer them to friends and neighbours!
