After seeing that Canadian Tire was having a sale on Dimmable CFL Lightbulbs, I went to my local store to purchase one. As this was the first day of the sale, I thought my chances were good of getting one. However, they were sold out so I received a rain check. About two weeks later, I received a voice message letting me know that my rain check was available to pick up. Surprisingly, after getting to the store, I was informed that they were sold out again and that rain checks were more-or-less a "first come/first served" deal - if they received six lightbulbs and twelve people were on the rain check list, then they called all twelve and the first six to show up got the bulbs. Obviously, that has never been how I understood the typical rain check policy and I told them so. However, I once again left the store empty-handed. Interestingly, about three weeks after that, I happened to be in the store for something else. On a whim, I looked to see if any Dimmable CFLs were in stock - one bulb was on the rack. I grabbed it and took it to Customer Service, asking why I was not informed that any had come in. Not surprisingly, I did not receive a satisfactory answer. They did honour my rain check however - after informing me that their rain check policy actually was not "first come/first served" and that I had been misinformed. Finally, to top everything off, almost two months after I initially went in to buy the bulb, I received another phone call to inform me that my rain check item was in stock - even though I had already redeemed my rain check slip and picked up my item.
