Jostar Interiors Ltd. was recommended by an excellent cabinet maker to solve the problem of a small poorly planned u-shaped kitchen that did not meet the needs of the clients. After listening to the clients' concerns and what they wished to achieve, checking the structural limitations, discussing budget expectations, I began the process of offering ideas, suggestions and solutions for the new kitchen layout, with careful consideration to functionality, practicality, a good design while still blending it with the rest of the home.

The requirements for more counter space, more storage, more work stations were met with the revised kitchen layouts Time was spent taping out the proposed new layout on the floor for the clients to visualize as change is sometimes difficult to accept.

Upon becoming aware of the review, I immediately contacted the client, as this came as quite a surprise. The husband was not aware of this review and did not have the same reaction to the meeting at all. He was very satisfied with the options and ideas presented - ideas they had not considered previously and was appreciative of the time spent. It was unfortunate that the appointment was delayed due to extremely icy road conditions, but the clients were advised that I would be late and were given their full design time.

It is our hope that once the husband and wife have the opportunity to discuss what will work for the both of them; we will have the opportunity to finalize the details and give them a new kitchen that will be a delight to work in!

It is unfortunate that 'Stacy from Edmonton' and her husband did not see the value in the design help given. An initial appointment was requested to help with a basement development which was to include a bathroom, bedroom, furnace room, storage area and an open area to serve as a multipurpose area including a workout space, wall of mirrors, TV viewing with seating arrangement as well as functioning as an area for home based business of conducting “parenting workshops”. Considerable amount of time was spent in their home giving ideas for the basement to facilitate these requirements.

The other request was to help with the master bedroom, requiring a space plan for furniture, furniture selections, drapery selections, and bedding selections. A discussion of client preferences was done as well as taking room dimensions to proceed with a plan that would be suitable for the clients need. A retainer was given as well as agreement to proceed. A scaled drawing of a bedroom space plan was done with several layout options. Product selection was prepared for furniture, designs for drapery treatment, (fabrics, hardware, etc), bedding options including duvet covers, bed skirts, pillow shams, accent cushions, upholstered furniture, full height mirror, etc. Several selections were reviewed to reflect different price points (as client could not give a budget amount beforehand). After over 6 hours of time spent on drawings, selections, and meetings the client was given the complete design and product selections for their complete bedroom with the options to make any changes to the selections and/or make any purchases she wanted. Client recorded selections and was happy with selections made when leaving. Other options at a lower cost were declined at the time.

We encourage budget discussions all the time as cost of product depends on selections made. We certainly work with many budget requirements if clients let us know what they are. If it is not possible we do make suggestions of what can be done to achieve them. If the client would like to revisit selections she made and provide a price range to be worked with we certainly would be happy to do that.
