This review is long overdue but one I’ve been eager to provide. First of all, I would highly recommend Solocrete to anyone and everyone who’s looking for concrete work. Interestingly enough, I was at a mining conference in downtown Toronto and mentioned some of the renovations I was doing in and out of the house and a colleague said he had a great concrete guy if I was looking for stamped. I told him we had ours done by Solocrete and he chuckled as he had used John about six year ago at his home.
John was very patient with me. I had him come out twice to provide a quote because after the initial quote which was for a white concrete (sidewalk look) walkways and rear patio, I decided to ask for stamped concrete and included the driveway.
Pricing was reasonable. Certainly not the most expensive but not the cheapest either.
John and Idila also patiently worked with me in the colour selection. He met me at his business in Brampton to go over the numerous shades of gray he had. He also made his recommendations based on his experience with what they looked like in the sun and in the shade. Afterwards, Idila provided me with about a half dozen locations where they had done work with my colour selection so that I could see a complete job. One homeowner happened to be home when I visited and they were happy to show me the backyard and spent about 10 minutes sharing their experience and tips with me.
The framing wasn’t perfect the first time, but it ended up being close to it. There were a couple of places around the house where the framer graded it incorrectly towards the house. They were remedied before any concrete was poured.
The staff work hard and John monitors them closely as he dropped by every now and then to see how things were progressing. I appreciated the hands on approach John takes … he actually works as hard as his crew when he’s on site.
Another pleasure was dealing with Idila. All my questions and concerns were acknowledged and followed up on in a timely manner. They make a very good team.
90% of the concrete looks amazing. The cuts are good, the borders look good and I’ve had plenty of compliments from my neighbours. There are a couple sections that look pitted but I don’t think there’s a remedy for that at this point. I don’t really notice them anymore.
Over the winter, much of the sealer has stripped and there’s been some cracking where my window wells have expanded. I’m not concerned that these aren’t matters that will be remedied by the Solocrete team.
Overall, I would highly recommend John and Solocrete and would not bother looking anywhere else if a need or opportunity arose.
As I’ve said before, John & Idila, I’d be happy to be a reference for quality of work and colour selection if people want to drop by!

they are very professional and flexiable. they did my whole house concrete, the work amazing. Job done quick, some delay because of the weather but otherwise was excellent.
price wise was the best, I had 2 other companies the rate was competitive not a lot but the best. I should say they focus on how to make the job perfect they spend a lot of time preparing and absolutly don't cut corners from what i saw! this was my experience with Solocrete thought to share it with you.
I stongly recommend it.

Not a lot of concrete companies would come out to do a quote let alone the actual job for a small one like mine, which was redoing my cracked and sinking front porch (about 50 sq. ft.).

The work itself appears to be done properly and I am happy he took away the old porch. Only part I was unhappy with was the lack of communication for when he or his staff would be at my place to start and continue (despite John telling me he would call me before he went over...I never did get a phone call). Some days I would arrive home and some work was done, but I wouldn't know this before I went to work (it would be a surprise to me). The finish wasn't what I expected ("brush finish"), and I could not tell him what kind of finish I did want ("smooth finish"). Might seem small and trivial but not to someone who will be seeing it everyday.

Regardless, the work was done and I would still use them again provided the communication was better.

I had work done from Solocrete about 6 years ago as a number of homeowners in our area were doing it. It always looks nice when brand new. Well the initial meeting was rushed but the price was good so I agreed to it. When installation was to occur I received a call on Friday night saying they would be there Saturday morning. And they were but not much notice. Installation took a few days. There wasn't a lot of consultation on design or color but the end product did look nice. It was a quick job but seemed like they did what they wanted to without talking to me. We had agreed on sinking all my downspouts. They decided to leave one in the backyard as is. Never received an explanation. However, I have to say that after 6 years and 3 seals (from person Solocrete recommends) the concrete is not great. Especially on the steps. Lots of cracks and chips. Customer service has not been great with the general reply from Idila that the concrete is supposed to expand and contract. My top step is not even joined to the front porch any longer. The response I received was it will contract in winter. I wish I had never had it done and am tempted at this point to have it ripped out at the front of my house. I don't know how people avoid injury in the winter from the snow and ice. Super slippery. I will add some pictures shortly.

I had John come out to quote this scope of work in Nov 2012. His price was very competitive at the time, and although some other companies had quoted less, i knew cheaper does not mean better.
From day one John and his team were A1 professionals. They did a great job, were on point and schedule and did everything above and beyond. When it comes to concrete you have to make sure that the concrete solution used is a strong one. Some companies will quote you a lower price with much lower quality product. Be weary of those companies.

This past winter our concrete cracked pretty bad, resulting in some water entering our basement. We picked up the phone, called Idala at the Solocrete office and 2 months later they re-did all the broken and cracked concrete, along with repairing the water leak all FREE OF CHARGE. This company will stand by their work and will repair it should their product crack or break. This is something you cannot pay enough for, especially in an industry where many people will take your money and run. John and his team did a spectacular repair job and our home once again looks great.

If you are looking for someone to do your concrete call Solocrete. You will realize that they are top of the food chain in the concrete business.

John and his team did an good job on our driveway. Although the design wasn't our expectation, the outcome is very good. Also the price is reasonable. Overall I am pretty satisfied of john's concrete work.

The Solocrete team did an amazing job on our driveway and backyard porch, all within a reasonable price. John & Co were extremely courteous and professional. They were passionate about the work they were doing and it showed in the end results! Not only were they extremely skilled and hard workers but they were also friendly and accommodating of all of our suggestions or questions. All the work was done in a meticulous manner, and was completed with care. The end result surpassed all of our expectations. We have even had a few neighbours complimenting the new look of our driveway. We are extremely happy that we decided to obtain the services of the Solocrete team and would recommend them to anyone!

If I could give John and his team a grade higher than 10 I would. My project started when I purchased my home about a year ago, the back yard was about 80% cemented in, which I wouldn't have minded if it had been done properly. Unfortunately the existing cement was all cracked and sloping back towards the house which was obviously a huge concern. Understanding I likely had no options other than tearing it all out and starting from scratch, I started reaching out to various contractors for quotes. I was looking to remove the existing cement and replace it with stamped concrete. Considering how bad the existing cement was, many contractors either said outright that they did not want to take the job on or demanded an obscene amount of money simply to remove the old cement. After I read the many positive reviews for Solocrete, I met with John who was very honest with me in that the removal was going to be a lot of work but he was willing to do it. Overall for the removal and the new stamped concrete, Solocrete provided the best price I could find after speaking to dozens of contractors. When the job started John and his team were very professional, friendly and worked very quickly; the old cement was removed within a couple of days. They were cognizant of my existing stamped concrete driveway and they worked very cautiously to ensure they did not cause any damage to the already finished area. Now that the project is officially complete, I could not be happier with the finished product. They successfully laid down the new cement, stamped it, parged around the entire house and cut the cement without chipping any corners and sealed it to a spectacular finish! The job was only completed a few weeks ago but the quality is so great that I already have friends and family reaching out to Solocrete to help them with their projects. A huge thank you to John, Adella and their entire team for the fantastic work they did. Thanks to them, my wife and I can finally start enjoying our backyard!

I had 6 reputable companies give me a quote, and Solocrete was not the cheapest, or not the most expensive - they were right in the middle. So to make my decision I asked for references, one was down the street from me which was an immaculate job from 2 years ago, and another i saw was 8 yrs old - again great condition. So I was sold. Once they started the job, they came on-time, and did a lot each time. I am pretty picky with details, and they never hesitated to satisfy my need for perfection (as they also want) - so now i have a great looking job done and all my neighbors envy the work. (they all have concrete work done too from other contractors -- but not to this caliber.). Thank to the SOLOCRETE team, Excellent service, Excellent work. When we purchased our home a few years ago, there was already a wide stamped concrete driveway. We ran into trouble last year as there is a man who drives around Brampton and reports about 40 houses to the city every month if he thinks their driveways are too wide. We received a notice from the city that ours was too wide and that we needed to have it corrected. If it wasn't corrected on time, they would fine us up to $25,000. I contacted about 10 companies and only Solocrete was willing to come out and discuss the issue with us. Other companies did not want to work on a driveway that was not their original work nor did they want a project as small as ours. We received a reasonable quote from Solocrete and they cut the excess driveway off, redid the border, filled cracks, and sealed the entire driveway and walkway. There was one mistake made during the job but it was quickly corrected and everything surpassed our expectations. Thank you so much for your help!
