Wrong colour door

Well it's over six months since we placed the order for a new door. Original installation was supposed to be November, then December, finally mid March. The door was kind of installed, when we noticed that the color doesn't match what we ordered. The company has done a poor job at even trying to show us what the origin color was supposed to be. On top of that they removed the door bell, and never put it back. The door lock will not operate will out pushing the door closed. The company is forcing us to take the wrong color. You can right down any color you want on a contract and deliver it. Then just say it matches it. This is your idea of what maybe or may not be right. Then funny enough, your salesman doesn't even work for you anymore. The guy who actually showed us the color we wanted. They refuse to give us the right door, and demanding payment. DO NOT EVER BUY FROM THESE GUYS.

Mr. & Mrs. K I am investigating your concerns. The door bell was not re-installed as the installer was not allowed to complete installation of the door. The colour of the door was written on the contract in two different sections and signed by the homeowner.

Project/Rebate

We had 2 bay windows and entry door replaced 10 months ago. We signed a contract in November 2017 and was told that we would get a 5% cheque if we waited until spring. We had to call twice before we received a cheque. We were also told that we would get an eco rebate. I am still waiting for the energy efficiency rebate consumers choice said they would process for me as part of my purchase... I am not holding out hope and I am not convinced that the rebate was processed. We would like to replace a few more windows in the next 2 years but I feel deceived. I have called on several occasions, left emails and never received a response

New Doors

Two year's ago, we had our front and back door replaced. Overall, I was pleased. About a year later I was noticing the front door looked like it has ripples on it. Then we were having difficulty opening the door. It was as though the lock was misaligned. Eventually (22 months after initial install) I emailed Consumer's Choice with photos of the door. They called me in a timely manner and sent someone out to take a look. He confirmed the door had a defect and they would replace it for me at no charge. He also fixed the alignment of the door so it would work properly. Unfortunately, a couple weeks later we had the same difficulty with opening the door.

A couple of weeks ago another installer came with the new door. He was a really nice guy and identified the alignment issue had to do with the screws used when the door was first installed. He said it's a heavy door and they didn't use the long enough screws to support the weight. So he corrected that. So far everything has been great.

Overall I am very pleased with this company. They stood by their product and quickly and easily replaced it when needed without hassle. I deducted one star because the original installers (subcontractors) did not use the proper screws to properly support the door. I think you experience will very much depend on which subcontractor you get.

Delayed install.

The work was immaculate - however when you are given a timeline of 8 - 12 weeks - it was actually extended to 6 months! Also no compensation was given for the delay other than occasional emails notifying you of the delay (I must've been sent 3 emails). Low star rating is there due to the delays. If you are in an emergency or require something within their promised time-frame - I would avoid them. If time limit is not a problem - then this is the company to go with.

2/6/19 - Update on comment above - I got a call from Paul Ph: 416-745-0565 - his main goal was to explain the delay in the install (ending of the rebates) - I reminded him I had ordered the window before rebates ended. He then proceeded to tell me that there was already a back-log. I asked him if he was going to offer me a rebate or compensation - to clarify he asked me if it was POSSIBLE TO CHANGE MY COMMENT HERE! I've now downgraded the status to '0' stars.

Hi Athar. We are pleased to hear you are happy with our work & people. Due to the overwhelming participation of the Government Rebate program the whole industry experienced delays. Regards, The Consumer's Choice Team.

Brampton seniors very dissatisfied with unacceptable workmanship !

Signed contract with Consumers Choice in October 2017, now owned by Nordic. First date offered for installation was Easter Sunday, 2018, which naturally we declined. Several weeks later on a Sunday Pavlo and a helper installed 2 patio doors, a front door and an outside enclosure. Words fail me to describe our shock upon reviewing the workmanship. We reported our concerns and itemized each problem in detail which we provided to Consumers. Luka, installation supervisor, attended our home and made dismissive and condescending comments about our numerous concerns. Nothing has been done to date to resolve issues.

Home window upgrade

We had a living room window and 6 bedroom windows done. We purchased after the rebates and we a little worried about the frame to fame windows. Much to my surprise they install really nice and air tight. The finishing is very professional. I’ll use this company again when we upgrade the rest of the house.

Door installation

There were so many red flags with this company but I will just focus on the installation. The two installers showed up at the scheduled time and were polite. I was having both the front and back doors installed. One installer worked on the front and the other on the back. I sat in my living room and watched the front door installer working. He started taking the old door and frame off. He used a hammer and screwdriver to do this. I cringed watching as he massacred the frame and worried what long term damage he was doing. I was going to offer him a crowbar but figured he knew what he was doing. He put the door in and showed me what a great job he thought he did. Then it came time for the deadbolt installation. I had purchased an electronic deadbolt at the suggestion of the salesman. The installer told me I should have told the company ahead of time. I didn’t know this was a big deal. It’s a standard sized item that most people just instal themselves. With some hesitation he attempted to install it. He was able to fit it in front the outside but when it came to the inside, he said it was too big. Again, he said I should have told the office so they could cut the proper sized hole. This confused me but maybe it was my fault. Then he got on the phone and started yelling with his supervisor. He told me someone would be calling me to set an appointment to recut the door. In the meantime we would reinstall my old deadbolt. That was fine.
During the install, the front door installer had gone to the back door and started yelling at the side door installer. They did something back there and 8 knew something was up. After the front door was done I took a look at the side door. So many problems. The only one I noticed at the time was the following. It looks like the lock combo kit I chose had a deadbolt that doesn’t fit centred. But instead of telling me there was a problem, they cut my door a bit to fit the dead bolt. What I noticed was caulking under the deadbolt to seal the gap they made. I asked what that was and why it was there. He explained and said he should have told me first. Umm, obviously. I would have gone out right then to get the right deadbolt. Or at the very least I would have told them to leave it and I’d fix it myself later. Now I have a gap in brand new doors! I regret not noting this on my paperwork.
I called the office the following day. I left a message with the service department and another with the supervisor Luka. I have yet to hear from either of them after a week and a half.
The day after that I took a better look at the back door. This installer didn’t install the strike plate flush and it was scraping the door frame. I fixed this myself. The caulking around the outside is very very sloppy and has gaps where water and bugs can get into the frame. I fixed this myself. Then just a couple of days ago the trim under the threshold inside the house popped off. The brads he used cracked the threshold and weren’t holding anything. I fixed this myself.
Regarding the deadbolt in the front door, I was passing by the hardware store and thought I’d stop in to see about buying a new deadbolt that would fit properly. I explained to them the issue. He and two other associates had never heard of this before. Then I got to thinking about how poorly the door was installed that perhaps the installer bungled this up too. Sure enough, he left an adapter on the inside part of the deadbolt which is why it didn’t fit. I pulled it off and the deadbolt fit perfectly.
I would not recommend this company. Every once in a while you need to come back to do some fixups but the lack of return calls is aggravating. Thankfully I can fix things myself but I worry for those people who can’t. I just worry about all of the other issues I’ll have in the future.
And if I ever get a return call, I’d love the hear what they’ll do to fix the gap in my rear door. I shouldn’t have to settle for this on a brand new door.

Sadly, I have a windows and doors guy I trust but gave Consumers Choice my business instead. Big mistake.
