Kitchen Renovation

Well it started with a leaky tap, which led us to want to replace the sink with an under mount, which required a new countertop, which prompted us to start changing colours and a cabinet. After contacting several contractors, Granite Transformations was the only one that seemed capable of taking on the whole job and the only one willing to work on our downtown condo (at an additional fee).
Rob came for the sales pitch and a quote. We ended up agreeing to go with them, with a little push from a limited time discount being offered. GT would provide new doors throughout the kitchen, in two different colours, as well as a countertop with a waterfall feature and the accompanying sink and tap.
Initial time estimate was a 3 day install for the cupboards and 2 days for the countertop. The day before each install we got calls saying they would only need 2 days and 1 day respectively. In the end they took the full 3 for cupboards and 2 for the counter. Given we were prepared for that anyway, it wasn't a huge inconvenience.
The initial cupboard installed seemed good at first but seemed to speed up and cut corners in the afternoon to beat traffic... We asked for a different installed for the final day of finishing work and fixes to some of the shortcuts with the first installer.
The countertop was installed by Edgar, a spunky guy who has a lot of energy and a passion for countertops. He did a great job getting the countertop in.
As for the quality of the products; the paint finish on the cabinets is delicate. Mostly superficial marks that you don't see unless you're looking for them.
The countertop is interesting as it is only 1/4" thick. That's because these guys typically install over existing counters. For the undermount sink, instead of using clamps under the counter, the 5/8" plywood that serves as the structure/base of the counter holds it up. The sink won't detach from the counter, ever. Kind of nice. I would prefer a thicker counter overall, but it looks great and they were able to install without a seam in the middle of a peninsula, which was something everyone else said was impossible. Guess it is possible!

Painting of Kitchen

The initial consultation was very good. The end result very poor. We had our 10 year old maple kitchen painted white and were told it will look like a new kitchen. Within a couple of weeks the paint started coming off in different places. Shawn was very apologetic and professional coming back and trying to "fix" it but it has now been three months and the paint keeps on flaking off and cracking. A friend of mine had the same job done with a different company and has no problems. Whether it was a poor sanding job or bad paint, I am very frustrated to have spent this much money and having to touch up the paint in my kitchen on a consistent basis.

Kitchen renovation

We worked with designer Sandi Hall who helped us select cupboards and counter tops. She had great suggestions for us and put together a great look. The crews came and the quality of their work was fantastic. They were very careful around the house and very pleasant to have around. The work was done completely, on time and was as low stress as renovations can be. We would highly recommend them.

Kitchen counters and sink

We had a very positive experience using Granite Transformations to refurbish our kitchen counters and replace the sink. Everyone we dealt with (sales, project management, and the installers) were friendly and a pleasure to work with. The installer in particular took care to make sure the job was done right, and was very patient in dealing with with any questions or concerns we raised. The job was well done, and finished right on time.

We are very happy with the results. We will have to see how the materials hold up over time, but so far the initial impression is great!

Kitchen renovation

90% of the work was done on time but getting the remainder 10% done was a nightmare. Workers were great people but they were clearly overworked and very tired and therefore made several mistakes. In the end, it took about 3 1/2 months for everything to get done. Although, we had put it writing that the job would be completed before Easter, it was not done in time; the owner claimed that completing a job means that the original installation has occurred therefore no apologies or compensations were needed. It looks like this used to be a good compagnie but it is deteriorating quickly.

bathroom counter

I would advise to not do this. We are removing it for real granite after just two years but we never liked it. The is an unnatural colour fleck in it that wasn't on the sample (a turquoise) . It looks dull. We did as we wanted to save the backsplash. The installers and sales person were fine but of course I'm unhappy as I could have had real granite for the same cost.

Countertop and backspash

This company was extremely professional and showed up on time for appointments. The end result was better than we could have hoped for. We are extremely happy with all aspects of this project and I would highly recommend working with Granite Transformation. We already recommended them to a friend who just had their kitchen done and they are also extremely pleased.

3 bathrooms

We used Granite Transformations to update our tub/shower areas (tubs and wall surround), sinks and counters in two full bathrooms, plus a counter and sink in our powder room.
The salesman, Rob, arrived on time armed with samples, before/after photos, etc. He offered suggestions but at no time was he aggressive or pushing for a sale. The project manager, Ami, was always available throughout.
Once the contract was signed, the office booked an appointment for a tradesman to take measurements. Shortly thereafter the office booked an appointment for the install advising it would be about 3 days, that we would have water off for a few hours, would be without tubs. They did offer the option of doing the bathroom tubs at different times but we decided doing it once and getting it over with. All trades people arrived on time, were friendly, very capable, explained everything, cleaned up after. They cared about doing a good job. They were considerate in pointing out issues. For instance, we got a call asking if we were okay with the height of the sliding glass tub doors. Our enclosures have bulkheads which limit height of the doors. It was fine but we appreciated them asking first and emailing a spec sheet. When the sinks turned out to be too large for the counters, in less than an hour smaller sized duplicate sinks were delivered to the house.
There were many options for sinks, counters and tub surrounds from which to choose but we opted for a basic upgrade. I am pleased with the fresh new look, although I have yet to repaint walls and cabinets which will bring it all together.
I have attached a few before/after images but check my blog for more detailed information: http://www.foramomentintime.blogspot.ca
