Replacement of front entrace door
Grip set purchased by customer was an end of the line set of hardware. We clearly wrote into our contract "Customer to supply hardware George Kent Home Improvements not responsible for hardware problems". Had the customer used our Weiser hardware it would have been under warranty. No locksmith necessary. The holes are drilled at the factory by the manufacturer on precision equipment, not on site.
To take the original door, package it somehow, transport it to the factory, have them mask it and paint 2 colours, package it and have a man go back again to pick up and transport to customer, install the door and customers hardware $650.00 was not unreasonable.
This customer called our office when the installation was complete and said the installer had torn her couch. The installer had no knowledge of the torn couch. He is an excellent worker who has been with the company for years, and still is.
The salesman attended at the house and told the customer to get an estimate for repair, invisible mending or whatever. Bearing in mind this was on an older piece of furniture,we were aghast that the customer did not submit an estimate but reduced her bill by, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen dollars and fifteen cents ($1,917.15). We called the customer but there was no reasoning with her and she closed the conversation by saying "I know all about home improvement companies, they make a lot of money" and slammed down the phone.
We settled this by reducing the balance by $700.00 and the customer paid 2 years interest. To-day we still have not seen an estimate for repair.
Customer was in our showroom a couple of times. Salesman had meetings at her home; met customer at Square One shopping plaza at her request.
Finally signed a contract after approximatly 2 months time. Customer called the next day and asked us to hold up the order. We did not cash her deposit cheque. The salesman hand delivered the cheque back to the customer the next day along with a letter wishing the customer success with another company. Honest salesman still with company reaping the benifit of repeat business and referrals.
