Elmwood Fine Custom Cabinetry

Stay away from Elmwood !!! Poor product for a premium price. They don't stand by their product. Anyone is welcome to look at my kitchen and see how awful it looks. The finish is flaking and drawers and doors are separating.

We are in the middle of a major kitchen renovation, and will be installing a complete new custom kitchen. Our kitchen designer (Cindy Walling at Aurora Home Hardware, she's great) recommended Elmwood cabinets as she has had good results with them on previous jobs. I had a look at their web site (www.elmwoodkitchens.com) and what I saw looked good. As part of the process, Cindy recommended a site visit, so last week we drove down to St. Catherine and got a full hour-long tour of the factory.

I have done a number of renovations, and been in more than a few kitchen cabinet shops, but this really was something else. These guys are BIG. The factory is over 150000 square feet, housed in an old GM transmission plant. It's clear that they place an incredible emphasis on quality control at every step, and the finished product shows that. In fact, I would say that the quality of the finished product is AT LEAST what I would expect from the high-end custom cabinetmakers I have dealt with in the past, but the price is definitely more reasonable. I especially liked the fact that they digitally measure every single door, down to a hundredth of an inch, before it gets shipped. Also, they have a deal on right now where you get solid plywood cabinets (!) and solid maple dovetailed drawers (!!) at no extra charge.

We're expecting to install our new kitchen in the new year, we'll give you an update on how things go. In the meantime, if you need a kitchen Elmwood should be on your radar.

By the way, there is some confusion on Homestars about "Elmwood Fine Custom Cabinetry" and "Elmwood Niagara Kitchens". Apparently the same company used to both build and install kitchens, but they have split into two separate companies. This one ("Elmwood Fine Custom Cabinetry", www.elmwoodkitchens.com) is the big manufacturer I visited and sells only wholesale. The other one, ("Elmwood Niagara Kitchens", www.elmwoodniagara.ca) is a retail kitchen designer and also a dealer for Elmwood Cabinetry.

I worked with Frank on a design for our kitchen & bathroom, he was very helpful and provided a design that works well and looks great. The product was priced fair for the service that Frank provided and the final product turned out great. I would recommend Elmwood to everyone.

Elmwood helped to design our kitchen and later installed the cabinets etc. It's a wonderful job. The craftsman that installed the cabinets took his time and made precision cuts and exact joints. We are very pleased with the results even after 3 years of use. The designers work with and and look for your design within.

Horrible service from the start. We built our new home and Elmwood sent ONE guy to install our kitchen who was newly employed with them and did not know anything about being a kitchen builder...best yet...he was unsupervised. Asked for the kitchen to be completly ripped out and started a new, which was never done. Very unproffesional and this matter will be going to small claims court. If you need kitchen renovations please go to [removed competitors name - ed]. We had an allowance and they went over it by 2k which would have been money well spent now that we see the mess we're in. Irene Weins provided the best service. My kitchen suits my wifes and my needs. Quality and workmanship was exceptional. Irene made suggestions about upgrades that were very beneficial to us. Would recommend Elmwood to my friends.

Frank was in charge of our kitchen renovations. He listened to our ideas before he brought us a design where he incorporated these ideas. If we wanted to talk to him about possible changes, he was always patient and listened. He was always available to talk to. He made sure anything we were not perfectly satisfied with was fixed to our satisfaction. The job took longer then he had thought, but we never felt he tried to rush the installer. We are very pleased with the final results.

We worked with the designers from Elmwood Kitchens to come up with a custom vanity and tub surround. While the installation took longer than anticipated, the final product was well crafted and professionally installed. For something unique Elmwood Kitchens should be considered.
