Sourced, sanded and finished floors

My husband and I have been renovating our house for 5 years. We were looking for the perfect floors and decided on white oak rift and quarter sawn in character grade. We contacted 6 flooring suppliers and they all told us that they were not available (they didn’t even bother to try and source it for us). Finally, we called Danny (one of the owners) at Capital Flooring. He was able to find them for us in only a couple of days. My husband and I installed the floors ourselves, and Tommy and his crew came to sand and finish the floors. The difficulty with the floors is the variation in the character grade. Tommy was super professional (and an absolute sweet heart) and did an amazing job, however we wanted the filler of the knots in the floors to be darker and more natural looking (this was just a difference in taste). We contacted Capital Flooring after the job was done and Danny came to look at the floors himself. Tommy and his crew returned and added a stain to all of the knots. We were amazed at the quality of the floors we purchased, the sanding and finishing and the customer service we received. We have already used Capital Flooring a second time and will continue to recommend them to anyone who is looking for quality flooring.

Our floors are stunning!!

Entire second floor and stairway refinish

The sales process was great and the quality of the floor is good. They arrived on time. During the actual installation the installers "slopped" stain on areas that they were not refinishing, which was left up to me to deal with. A high level of dust is also to be expected, but the site prep to contain the dust was poorly done. The installers helped themselves to furniture to rest tools on as well as lighting. One would expect professional tradesmen to have their own lighting for a job site.

Hardwood flooring and baseboard install

Danny and his team provided exceptional service. Danny knows his stuff and offered great advice. The finished product in the living and dining room looks fantastic. I will call upon Dannys services again when we install new hardwood in the bedrooms. Great work!

Removed old floors, levelled floors and installed new hardwood.

We were recommended by friend's who worked with Kevin and team. Kevin is amazing to work with, as were the two men who did the work. The cost could not be beat and the result is almost incredible. We had very, very uneven floors in the main level of our home (which is over 100 years old). The new floors have changed the entire house. The took the time they said they would and were all over the details. I would use them again and again. . .

install hardwood in kitchen and sand and refinish in rest of house

I met with several companies and was not impressed by any of them. When Danny came in and looked at the floors and told me what he could do I was very impressed. Now that the job has been completed, I can admit that I was willing to pay more but was very pleasantly surprised that the quote from Capital was the lowest I received. The workers were prompt and reliable and I have no problem recommending them to anyone

Sanding and refinishing

These guys are fast, friendly and cheap, but only of medium quality. I'd use them again for a simple job that you are able to supervise fairly closely, Could do worse.

Installation of bamboo floor in condo

We contracted Capital Floor to install bamboo in our condo because we know we wanted something unique and eco friendly in our living space. Capital Floor came highly recommended from a friend who had her floor done two years ago. Capital Floor came to give us a free estimate and brought along a few bamboo samples. We agreed on the price and we were able to have the floor installed the week after. The worker did a great job and we are extremely happy with the floor. The price was just reasonable (not the cheapest quote we received but they were insured and have been in the business for over two decades so we decided to go with them) but the workmanship is beautiful. I would recommend this company.

Installation of bamboo flooring

They installed bamboo flooring that we bought from another company. Out house is an old house and the floor was not levelled. They did an amazing job on leveling our floor and instaling the bamboo. Even after the job was done, they came to the house to walk over the work their guys did and answer and questions or concerns we had. We would use them again for our next project!

main floor replacement of oak flooring and finishing

Floor was not installed properly (no room for wood expansion). They put the wrong coloured stain on after being told to match the second floor of our house . They put a large hole in the wall and splashed stain on walls and inside a floor heater. Against our better judgement we let them repair their work. The refinish was spotty, the floor was rough to touch, you could see the wipe marks of stain and the floor had visible chatter marks. After admitting the work was not acceptable and offering to come in a third time we told them they were not coming into our house again. A damming report was done by a liscenced floor inspector. They claim that they are members of the NWFA. I called the NWFA and they are not members.

Company Response

Our company installed, sand, and refinished your floor through a general contractor. We were instructed by your contractor to match the existing colour on the 2nd floor which already had a light stain colour. We did exactly that. The colour was approved by the contractor. The quality was approved by the contractor.

During this entire process, we met you - the homeowners – once but there was no indication of displease or disapproval of the colour on your part. Approximately 10 days after the work was completed, we received a phone call from the contractor requesting that the new floor colour must be matched to the wainscoting and not the colour on the existing 2nd floor, which we were originally instructed to do. Out of courtesy we went back to resand the floor. The stain given to us by your contractor was a Goudey stain, which is an extremely fast drying solvent based stain. The stain’s odour is awful and really strong to a point that you can get sick from just a half an hour of exposure to it. It is also a very difficult stain to work with due to its fast drying nature. We normally work with Duraseal, Minwax, and Torcan stains. Occasionally, we would work with Benjamin Moore or Pratt and Lambert stains. As it happened, the result did not meet your quality expections. We did offer to go back to redo the job again but were not given that opportunity.

We understand your frustrations throughout the process but it is not a fair to give such a scathing review. We have served thousands of delighted customers over the years and stand behind everything that we do. We sincerely regret that this has happened.

With regards to our membership status with NWFA, we have been their member since 2005. In 2011 a member of our office staff missed the renewal deadline and as a result our membership was temporarily suspended. They have since lifted the suspension and we are now in good standing with the association.
