Dryer repair

This company should be avoided at all costs. They are completely unethical in the practices. I was told that they would charge $80.00 for a service call, if I decided to go ahead with a repair it would be credited back on the repair. I was told that I had to sign a paper before the repair man even looked at the dryer which said I would have to pay 316.00 for something he did not even look at. He spent no more that 1/2 an hour and wanted to charge me $280.00 for labour to do nothing. He pretended to open up the dryer and didnt even fix the squealing sound which is either a pully or a bearing from my research not the motherboard like they tried to indicate it was.

Poor dishwasher service

tech didn't even pull the machine out to look, it was a drainage hose that a mouse bit into, a $10 part he wanted over $200 for labour.
I kicked him out and fixed it myself for $10.00
I had to pay the $80.00 service charge for no service.
I called them to complain but it fell on deaf ears.
Avoid this company at all costs.

Worst of the Worst - Washer Machine

They will just send you an useless fake tech who is trained to do nothing but tricking customers to drain their money. On the day I found my washer is down, I called other repair companies but they were fully booked, and after a quick Google search, I found this Appliance Repair Guys. Now I understand why they had so many available spots, but I didn't really think clearly and take time to investigate this company further because I wanted to get my washer right away.

A tech guy came, 2 hours before the appointment. After a quick look, he said he can fix it within today with a fee of $280 (plus HST). I happily signed on the agreement and paid the money because I thought it wasn't too bad if I can get over with it. However, after this tech guy fiddled around the washer for an hour, he simply said he needs to order some parts. WHAT? He did say he can fix it, otherwise, I would have not ordered the service. I wanted to argue with this guy, but unfortunately, the agreement I signed states that "the success rate with initial $280 is 80%, if additional parts are ordered, it will be charged with instillation fees".

I am sure that this tech guy figured right away that the washer needs new parts. But he "pretended" as if he can fix it so he can charge $280. He is supposed to call me with a quote for the parts/installation fees, but I am going to move on without waiting for it, with a fear that he is going to say he cannot fix it even with the new parts.

By the way, $80 service call charge is not being waived, but it's just built in to the $280.

I really hope that this company will go down with their business.

Minor repair turned major- Dishwasher

This company is not worth the energy it takes to dial their phone number. We had a MINOR issue with our dishwasher but it still functioned (it wasn't draining fully). I called this company in an effort to repair the problem before we went away on vacation. Now I'm the first to admit that I should have done better investigative work because they do have TERRIBLE reviews but I didn't have a lot of time. The technician came out and told me it would cost 280 dollars for the service call and in 80% of the cases it can be repaired without a part being ordered. I agreed, I really just wanted it to be functional for my parents who were staying at our home while we were gone on our vacation. Well, he opened it and said it was the cleanest dishwasher he had ever seen and it was in really good shape and he didn't think it was a blockage. He took it all apart and messed around with it and showed me that my pump motor was slowly dying BUT not to worry because it could still be used and showed me how to drain it manually if some water remained in the bottom and left (after using my towels to clean up his mess). We didn't risk it being used while we were away but came home to it leaking even when it wasn't used. It's way worse now then it was before this so called technician touched it. The useless customer service people said I'm not authorized to send someone back to your home unless you order the new part ($350.00). I explained this has nothing to do with the part and everything to do with this "technician" creating new problems. This company is an epic fail. I'd rather buy a new dishwasher than deal with people with no business ethics.

Billing and service inconsistencies

On March 11, I had a repair technician come to my home to investigate my broken Whirlpool washer. In conversations with customer service beforehand, I was told that the service call would be $80 and the technician would advise of the required labour. I was told that if we agreed to agree to the labour, we would not need to pay the $80 (it would be integrated into the quote). If we did not agree, we would be responsible for the $80 payment.

When the technician entered my home, he opened the washer and explained what was going on. Essentially, the previous tenant had misused the machine and had destroyed it. He called the unit owner and told her the labour would be $280 for the service and that he requested permission to proceed.

He indicated that a great deal of service and parts would be required to get the washer functional again. He told me he would provide a quote to the unit owner. No repairs or service were completed on the machine. The unit was closed and he left, indicating that he would provide a quote to the owner.

First, in the invoice, he said that he:
- "serviced the main board, drum rotation system, water systems, wiring systems, and draining system".

This did NOT happen. He did no work at all. The board was NOT serviced. There was nothing done with the water systems. I don't even know what he's talking about with the drainage system. the only thing he did was clean the lint trap from the ceiling.

Second, the owner had no idea that there was a quote for further repair. this leads me to believe that he never intended to contact and provide further details of the issues with the machine.

When I contacted the company to inquire, I was told by customer service that the $80 was the cost just to get he technician into the door and that the labour were were quoted was for the services rendered. Interesting, because he had already opened the machine when offering me a quote for further assistance. I could tell by the tone of the customer service member's voice that she was well prepared to deal with this sort of complaint, which suggests to me that this is a common call received.

The company is misleading and overcharges for services not rendered. The purposely misguide when explaining costs so as to trick customers into paying hundreds of dollars, but receiving no actual benefit.

Dishwasher repair

I replaced a soap dispenser in my Bosch dishwasher but needed some help putting the door back together. I called this company and told them what I needed. The tech came out and told me (without actually checking) that my pump needed to be replaced, not the soap dispenser. He suggested how I could put the door back together then charged me $90 for the service call. They actually did nothing to help me!

Do not Utilize Appliance Repair Guys

Do not utilize this company for your appliance repair. I don't know how I missed all the bad reviews because I'm usually pretty good about this kinda thing, so I'll do everyone a solid and post a review everywhere I can to make sure no one else experiences this. They seem to charge you flat rates regardless of the issue you have and regardless if they actually diagnose and can fix the problem or not. They charge you $80 for showing up and claim that they'll charge you hourly after that point but regardless if the job takes 10 minutes (which I'm sure they'll attempt to stretch out) or 2 hours, you'll be charged $280+HST (includes the $80 show up fee). This is an astronomical amount of money for diagnosis compared to rival companies. Now keep in mind that they will claim that this cost is "supposed" to account for any labour to actually FIX the appliance, more on this later. After the labour only diagnosis fee they'll start throwing parts at the appliance at severely marked up prices. This is nothing new, all companies do this, but their margins are HUGE. For example, an $80 part any consumer can buy from a typical walk in appliance repair store will come out to $250-300 from this company. They claim to not charge labour for the installation (it's included in your $280+hst), I did not get this far with them, but have found other reviews indicating that ontop of the astronomical part mark-up some people were actually charged additional labour beyond the $280+hst diagnosis labour. It's not like you get same day delivery and repair and that you are paying for the convenience of them stocking tons of parts for all makes, NO. They order it and find it the same way any consumer would so you'd wait anywhere from a day to 2 weeks for a part if they don't have it in the truck.

Next let me discuss my service technician. He seemed OK at first, was pretty quiet, seemed to take care in what he did, had normal mediocre tools (nothing crazy specialized or efficient and time saving), but my guy spent 75% of his time in my house on the phone on his bluetooth headset. He was on the phone with friends/family member, not with his company. He took multiple calls and was on one call for what seemed like 45 minutes, not saying much, but was just on the phone with someone on the other end saying something every so often. I won't judge I mean this might have been a special case with a child with a condition for example, but regardless this came off as EXTREMELY unprofessional in my eyes. This company claims professional service and seems to charge as such, and sends technicians that do things like this? Common. To make things worse I was with the guy 100% of the time and that still didn't deter him from taking the liberty of freely making and taking non work related phone call. At this point I was under the impression I was being charged hourly, not a flat $280+hst regardless of time spent (found that out much later), so this angered me off even more, because being on the phone while you do something guarantees you'll either take longer to do it or you'll make more mistakes, this is basic Human Performance.

I bet the company justifies these prices based on their high level of service and ability to respond 24/7 etc. Although they have this statement in their "About Us" mission statement: "We provide quality in-home appliance repair services at reasonable prices." At reasonable prices, of course if up to interpretation, but I for one will say that their prices are not reasonable. They are outrageous, not competitive, and the only reason they are still in business, although I'm sure their market share is dropping, is that there are enough uninformed consumers out there that fall into their clever trap every day.

Bottom Line:
This company has huge margins and does not disclose this to its customers before they are "trapped" and the technician begins working on the appliance, after which, unknown to the customer, they will be charged $280+hst regardless of actual time spent. After biting that bullet you will be ripped off again with the massive mark up on parts. Again taking advantage of people's lack of knowledge of what parts should cost approximately.

Many people might read my review as, "boo hoo a customer is complaining that a company is making too much money off of them". Appliance Repair Guys go WAY beyond making a healthy profit, they utilize dirty tactics of withholding critical pricing information and misleading customers to overcharge customers.

Bosch Range pilot light repair

Terrible experience with this company. Quoted $80 and $30/10 min . I agreed in advance of their fees as I was told it was a 10 -20 min job. Signed a contract saying any extra visit would be no charge if no parts needed (I have the replacement part so good there) and Tech starts to unscrew the plate on the range. 50 minutes later (?!) tech says he needs his superior to come a to remove this first screw with a "special tool" on another day. 10 days later (after I make all the calls for them to return) they arrive, same single tech, no superior and now says that have to charge me another $80 plus $30/10min, even though the contract we spoke about and I signed said there would be no extra charge for the extra visit. I wanted to speak to a manager to clear this up but he would not wait and left after 5 min. Weird. Very bad customer experience.. Out $$ with no fix. Dealing with their senior management now but not hopeful for a resolution.

Almost burned!

Had an issue with our dish washer, did not take time to read Home stars reviews...Tech came out and in 8 minutes said it was the motherboard and it would need to be replaced for $438.03 plus his $80.oo show up fee..

Paid the money and he came back 2 days later with the new motherboard installed it and the dish washer still did not work..

At that point he said he would go and research to try to find the problem...I actually saw him in his truck seaching google on his phone...So I told him enough put my motherboard back in and take out the one you brought..

He explained he could not do that after getting off the phone with his office and that he just needed one more part from office to fix it all and he would be back next day but the extra part would be 350.00...I just wanted him gone

I called his office and said please come pick up your motherboard and reimburse me as it was not a faulty motherboard as the new one does not work either...Office manager extremely rude and aggressive..flatley refused saying tech would be back with another $350.00 part and the dishwasher would work..

Back and forth for a few weeks demanding our money back..it was not until I said screw it I am going to CTV news and see what Clive Foran has to say...did she say she would give all our money back minus the $80.00 for tech...At that point was just glad it was done so the 80.00 I could deal with..

Never ever use this company!

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE

Do not even so much pick up your phone and call this company or you will be billed for it.
August 12th, 2015 I called this company (not thinking to check reviews) to fix my dryer. They told me they couldn't get a service man to my area until the 14th. So, I booked the call.
In the meantime, I found someone who was able to come on August 13th to fix the dryer. So I called Appliance Repair Guys and cancelled the service call for the 14th.
Never heard another word. No problem.
This past week, March 3rd, I received a FINAL NOTICE from this company advising me that if I failed to pay the $80.00 for the service call that took place on August 14th, my account was going to be sent into collections.
I emailed them in response to the letter and advised them that there must be a mistake, that I had cancelled the service call and that no one from their company performed any type of service at my home.
I received an email back telling me that "We are sorry for the inconvenience but this is our policy. You were left an invoice at the time of service. You have ten business days to remit payment otherwise will be sent to collections."
I received no invoice. Probably because no one showed up here because the call was cancelled. But they are sending it to collections anyway. DEPLORABLE business practice. I'd like to know how they can legally get away with this.
