Billing and service inconsistencies

On March 11, I had a repair technician come to my home to investigate my broken Whirlpool washer. In conversations with customer service beforehand, I was told that the service call would be $80 and the technician would advise of the required labour. I was told that if we agreed to agree to the labour, we would not need to pay the $80 (it would be integrated into the quote). If we did not agree, we would be responsible for the $80 payment.

When the technician entered my home, he opened the washer and explained what was going on. Essentially, the previous tenant had misused the machine and had destroyed it. He called the unit owner and told her the labour would be $280 for the service and that he requested permission to proceed.

He indicated that a great deal of service and parts would be required to get the washer functional again. He told me he would provide a quote to the unit owner. No repairs or service were completed on the machine. The unit was closed and he left, indicating that he would provide a quote to the owner.

First, in the invoice, he said that he:
- "serviced the main board, drum rotation system, water systems, wiring systems, and draining system".

This did NOT happen. He did no work at all. The board was NOT serviced. There was nothing done with the water systems. I don't even know what he's talking about with the drainage system. the only thing he did was clean the lint trap from the ceiling.

Second, the owner had no idea that there was a quote for further repair. this leads me to believe that he never intended to contact and provide further details of the issues with the machine.

When I contacted the company to inquire, I was told by customer service that the $80 was the cost just to get he technician into the door and that the labour were were quoted was for the services rendered. Interesting, because he had already opened the machine when offering me a quote for further assistance. I could tell by the tone of the customer service member's voice that she was well prepared to deal with this sort of complaint, which suggests to me that this is a common call received.

The company is misleading and overcharges for services not rendered. The purposely misguide when explaining costs so as to trick customers into paying hundreds of dollars, but receiving no actual benefit.

Approximate cost of services:
$300.00
