We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused the Dauphinee Family. No doubt it would be a very terrible experience. That being said, we stand by our determination that we are not responsible for the animal damage as outlined in our contract and because we did everything to bring the gaps to Mr Dauphinee's attention and he did nothing with the information provided.
When we did the roof in October we sent a picture of one of the bad gaps and told Mr Dauphinee that this is an example of one of the bad gaps and to have Matts Brother look at it when he comes. Matts brother was hired by Mr Dauphinee to do some specialty metal flashing on his chimney and we explained that he would be a good person to address the gaps. Mr Dauphinee told me he would "check to see what he can do".
The gaps are everywhere that the existing cedar shingles were touching fascia and soffit such as dormers and walls. It was inevitable that these gaps were there as cedar has a much larger profile than todays shingles. This was outlined when we were quoting the roof, it is in our contract that we are not responsible for gaps OR animals, and I even sent him a photo of one of the gaps so he could see exactly what i was talking about. Mr Dauphinee did not have Matts brother or anyone else fix the gaps.
We take great pride in our workmanship and our reputation and it really hurts us to have reviews like this posted when we did everything possible to alert Mr Dauphinee to the issue. He saw a picture with a large gap in it and did not attempt to have it closed. The picture was sent in October... It is now the end of May.
We never once quoted to close the gaps, hinted we would close the gaps, took money to close the gaps. We are not animal specialists or soffit/fascia repairmen. We just wanted Mr Dauphinee to know there WAS gaps so that he was aware with the condition of his house. We have absolutely no idea if an animal will enter a gap we just know to inform the homeowner that there IS a gap. This was not something that we tried to hide or be sneaky about. It was brought up during the quotation process as well. It was established that there would be gaps due to the different materials being installed.
We came to the property on May 27th, 2023 after this was brought to our attention and we were literally forced off the property with swearing, yelling and threats after I showed Mr Dauphinee our saved text messages.
We have pictures of our conversations as well as our contract . We wont get into more details as this forum is not meant to be a debate between a homeowner and a contractor. We just wished to defend our position.
