Window Cleaning

We hired the company to do both an exterior and interior window cleaning. They cleaned only our exterior fronts and then left a piece of paper (apparently an invoice) with a dollar amount on it. No official invoice, no tax breakdown or HST number. The invoice was for $150, but they never completed the exterior or interior windows. They tried saying they did the work. Not only was I home that day to let them in for the interior, but we have surveillance cameras that showed they didn't do any cleaning.

They promised a re-clean and we booked an appointment. I stayed home that day. They never showed up. Two days later we receive a voicemail saying they'll come in on another date. Again, no-show. They've called with 3 appointments and never showed up.

For a guy that manages trades for a living, this was by far the most unprofessional, service I've ever encountered.

What could this company do to improve their services?
1. Show up to your appointments. 2. Actually perform the services you were hired to do. 3. Actually do a good job of the services you where hired to do. 4. Don't just spray windows with oxygenated water. If I wanted to blast my windows with a garden hose, I could do it myself. 5. Upon completion of services, provide an actual invoice with tax breakdown and a legit HST number. 6. If you're going to bail on the job and still bill the customer, make sure they're not home or have security cameras.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Hire another company. There are plenty out their. Often enough, smaller companies value their reputation and are willing to provide better service.

Window Cleaning

Be careful with this company and their billing practices. I booked them to clean my windows in April 2014 for one time only but my Visa was then charged for 5 consecutive months - after noticing this I contacted them for a refund which I received finally after many phone calls but was assured that my Visa # was no longer on file. Now it is April 2015 and noticed that again my Visa has been charged for window cleaning even though I haven't contacted them to do this work. Waiting to hear how and why this happened and when another refund cheque will be issued.

Window Cleaning

Let me first begin by saying that the actual window cleaning that was performed was done well. However the administration at this company is far below standard. Let me provide several examples:

1) Was called by GS to book my window cleaning. I said I would book. They then quoted me a price which was 29% higher than the previous year. I didn't quite remember the price I paid last year (at that time) so I told them I would call back when I checked my invoice. I did (the next day) and it was rectified, and they sent me a confirmation to that effect, showing my lower price.

2) In the time between the original booking and actually coming to do the work, I was called at least 3 more times (that is when I picked up my phone) to book my window cleaning services. I REPEATEDLY had to tell them I was already on the schedule.

3) The day of the cleaning, I was called by the office to tell me they couldn't do it that day and would be coming the following day (no problem, that was fine with me). BUT then, 15 minutes later the cleaners show up to start the job.

4) When the job was completed the serviceman tried to charge me the higher amount that was originally quoted on the first call. I informed him that I had already talked to the office about honoring my 2014 rate. He then went to call his office to verify and then tried to negotiate a slighty lower rate but still not the agreed up rate!! Pardon?? Eventually after I told him i was going to go find my confirmation he "agreed" to the rate I already had a confirmation for.

4) Last but not least - I paid by check. Two days later I was called by the office to settle up my account (by credit card). Again another waste of my time explaining I had written a check already!

As you can see, my biggest issue with this company is the lack of effective information sharing. The left hand is NOT talking to the right hand, and it is wasting MY time as a customer. I shouldn't have to answer multiple phone calls from GS so they can figure out what is going on in their office. I have dealt with many service companies and have never seen anything this broken.

Despite them doing a good job with the actual cleaning, I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. I just don't have time for this.

Hey Lynda,

I do apologize about the amount that you where misquoted. After speaking with you, you advised me that you where billed the correct amount. With regards to the multiple phone calls, we recently switched to a new CRM, and we had your number multiple times in our system. I know it is irritating and I do apologize for duplicate in the system with regards to the multiple phone calls.

I also apologize about the cleaners over quoting, they are trained to accurately quote jobs. If jobs are under quoted or over quoted the cleaners are instructed to get in contact with management to determine a solution and proceed accordingly. We have sent you a complimentary gift to rectify the situation, because you are valued customer.

Any questions, please feel free to contact our office.

Eaves Cleaning

My experience with this company was unprofessional from the start. The crew of two showed up to clean my windows when eavestrough cleaning only was booked. Fortunately, I was home when they arrived and caught them before they started on the windows. After they were done and gone, I noticed tons of debris on my grass, all around the perimeter of my house--debris they neglected to clean up. It seemed as though they blew the debris from my eaves onto my lawn and left me with a $118 invoice for doing so. I was contacted a few days later by a company representative looking for payment and I described my experience. He asked me to send him the photos that I took of all of the debris that was left behind. He told me he would get back to me quickly to arrange a cleanup. After approximately a week without a return call, I paid to have the mess cleaned up (I have a bad back and can't risk injury). A few days after that, another representative called me to ask how I liked Gold Standard's service. I was polite but frank with her that Bronze Service would be greatly overstating this company's dedication to their work and customer service. She told me that she was sorry and that a manager would call me back. The next day, another young lady was calling to see how the service was and to collect payment. She had no clue, the notes weren't in the file from the previous calls. At this point, I had spent over an hour of my time speaking to three different Gold Standard employees, none of which were informed or particularly helpful. Today, approximately two weeks after the "service" was semi-performed, the original manager I had spoken to called me back. He was apologetic about what happened and that I had to pay to have their work finished for them. He then told me that head office required payment and that anything less than 75% would be unacceptable to them, but that he'd fight for me if I agreed to pay $50. I told him that if paying $50 would get them to stop calling me, I would reluctantly pay it. It felt like blackmail. He told me to wait as he put me on hold. Then he told me he would call me back. He called me back to tell me that the company would accept nothing less than $75 to cover their costs. I told him he should be ashamed to work for this employer and gave him my credit card number. Over several decades of using home services, I have never come across a company that treats customers the way this company does. I strongly suggest you think twice before letting Gold Standard anywhere near your home. Even if the service was free, I would not trust them. After blowing the service, they had every opportunity to make this right and refused to do so. Nothing short of shameful.

Gold Standard Property Care - Window Cleaning

We had our windows cleaned by Gold Standard Property Care. After the cleaning job the first floor windows actually looks worse than they did before cleaning with water spots all over. I called to mention this to Gold Standard and the woman that answered the phone indicated that they can send a crew out but if they think the windows are clean enough they will charge me $50 for this service call. Really?
I have asked them to come out to see the windows (not sure if they will think they are clean enough - if yes they shouldn't be called Gold standard). I will not use this service again.

Company Response

Hello Christine,

I believe there may have been a slight miscommunication. Our company policy is 100% satisfaction guarantee. However, we also have a policy for unwarranted service calls as any business would. We let all our customers know that of course we will come back and re-do the work. However, if the dirt is on the inside, or it is condensation between the glass panes then we charge a $50 service fee. This fee is not meant to be a revenue generator, but simply to reimburse for the time the crew spent getting to the house, dealign with the issue, and transportation fees. That is why we always ask the customer to double check that the dirt is not on the inside, because 9 times out of 10 the windows are clean on the outside and the "debris" left is actually on the inside of the glass or hard water stains that do not come out with a regular clean.

Christine, I would like to once agin clarify: if the windows were not left clean after the job, of course we will come back and fix the issue free of charge. However, if its an unwarranted service call then we need to charge the $50 fee to pay for the cleaner's time and gas. This is a common practice in most service businesses.

Eave cleaning

They came to the door to clean eaves. I pointed out a difficult spot to reach and they said no problem. Weeks later I discovered an entire eave they hadn't done. Took five phone calls to get a response. They said they would fix it but they didn't. Now it's spring and water is overflowing. Called again last week and no response. Don't take a chance on this bunch.
