Metal roof

I was happy with how quickly the work was done. The workers were odd ducks, none of them smiled or spoke a word to me. It was actually kind of spooky. The first rain we had the roof leaked. We discovered tonight it is leaking in several places. We tried to call them and they have vanished! So much for our lifetime warranty. If anyone knows what happened to the company please post.

replace shingles with standing seam aluminum roof

I recently discovered that my 25 year guaranteed shingles had deteriorated after only twelve years to the point that I had numerous small leaks. I patched what I could and started investigating a replacement. I was disgusted with the 12 year life of my asphalt shingles so I wanted a longer term solution, namely metal. Aluminum seemed the best choice in terms of durability. I started out conservatively looking for metal panels disguised to look like other materials (e.g. slate, clay, stone covered) but eventually decided that standing seam roofs were the perfect marriage of material, form and function and having a non-disguised metal roof would be a good thing. I got several quotes before deciding to go with Rob and Custom Metal Roofing. I chose them because: 1) they had the best price by far for standing seam aluminum roofing, their price beat all competing bids for a metal roof regardless of type or finish, 2) they specialized in standing seam aluminum and could form the panels on site where competitors considered standing seam aluminum to be a extra-cost option, and 3) Rob was a very straight-forward no pressure guy and based his estimates on a very simple calculation by square footage. I arranged to have them do the roof the following week. They showed up as planned and completed the job within a day and a half. There was no issues or drama of any kind. the quality of their work looks fine to my eye and I love the look of the standing seam panels and the fact that my house stands out in the sea of me-too asphalt roofs of my neighbors. And most of all I look forward happily with the expectation that I will not have to replace my roof again.

Roof re covered with metal

We had the folks from custom metal roofing stop out at our house.
We have had estimates for the work from other companies and they came in almost half. This made us somewhat skeptical.
After some research, and reading a poor rating on this site, we decided to look elsewhere but, after talkiing to friends who used the services we had them come out.
To our suprise, they did a fantastic job at less than half the other people we had quote.
We chose the aluminum panels, we have a complicated home. Everything was made like gutters right then and there.
Looks fantastic. We love it.
I mentioned to Rob the owner that we would post a review, he thanked us and said it was very kind, not many people take the time to write a good review.
We are planning to use them at our cottage again this fall.
Sincerely-
Marion

Unsatisfactory Low-slope Metal Roof installation, Contractor unable to repair, reulted in Roof Replacement

A Metal (aluminum) Roof was installed on a 0.5-in-12 roof (my house) in April 2010. CMR assured me that the roof was suitable for the application.
The roof leaked fom the first rains, at the lower edge - capillary action was pulling the water back up under the roof sheets. This problem was confirmed by my observations, 3 industry professionals and my building inspector.
It took a long time for CMR to come out to attempt a repair - I was told this was their busy season. When they eventually came, on 3 occasions they simply tried to apply silicone to fix the problem. IMO this is not a suitable barrier against the elements. Not once did they ever apply water to see the problem, nor did they see the roof in the rain.
With winter approaching, with advice from 3 roofers, the roof was lifted and ice-and-water shield applied. This stopped 90% of the leaking, but the wood was still getting wet.
Without CMR's cooperation, with the water ingress, one winter would damage the engineered beams. I was forced to replace the roof.
To this day CMR tell me that a) the roof wasn't leaking, and b) that I caused the leak. I have good information from a number of industry professionals, websites and aluminum sheeting suppliers (all verbal, nobody wants to put anyrthing in writing) that this type of roof is not suitable for under 2.5 to 3-in-12 roof slopes.
I still maintain aluminum roofing is a good product, I was simply sold the wrong product for the application, and CMR were unwilling to step up to the plate and addmit it. I believe (and I am not alone) that there was no way they could ever have made this roof work. They cite many similar projects being successful. My question is what damage is being done on a constant basis? Small amounts of water leaking oover a period will cause long-term damage, that they will be unaware of. If my roof were out or warranty I would not go back to the original supplier that caused the problem in the first place. Of course they would be unaware of such problems.
I would not recommend CMR because of their lack of product knowledge, dishonest practices and unwillingness to honour their warranties.
