foundation & basement

I have had work done by other firms in the past but this company is by far the most honest & hard working. They went above and beyond my expectations. Their was always open communication between myself and the owners and the staff. They took extra care to keep everything clean. I will always refer Emile, Ray and their staff to anyone wants to know.

Foundation repair

I cannot recommend this company.
The salesman Emile told me what they were going to do and the cost. I had several quotes and they match fairly closely.
However, when it came to the contract, many things had changed, most importantly was the dropping of the use of epoxy to seal the crack. I complained, and Emile told me that the a new contract would be given to me to contain Epoxy instead of Hydraulic Cement.
Note the my insistence on Epoxy was because of the 30+ articles I have read about using Concrete Staples and they ALL indicated that Epoxy was the only way to properly secure them.
They showed up … no new contract. I complained again when the fellow indicated they were putting in 2-foot epoxy coated rebar (straight, not in a stable). They then indicated that they were stitching instead of stapling, but stitching means narrow cross-drilled holes filled with Epoxy where they were just putting in vertical (and very wide) troughs.
They didn’t use the rebar strength indicated, the fellow, to comply with my request for stables, just bent the rebar, but apparently the diameter of the curve, and the length of the 2-foot rebar, now down to 14-inches is insufficient structurally.
They only used Hydraulic Cement to fill the holes and the crack. The finer parts of the crack are not sealed.
The parging was poorly done in that it was placed on top of the existing parging. This will result in significant cracking in a year or two.
All-in-all a very poor experience and a waste of over $10k for a job that will have to be done again in about 2 years. I strongly recommend you stay away from this company.

basement and ktichen renovation

The work Ottawa Home Improvements did on our two 'problem' areas was outstanding. We will hire them again as we continue to upgrade. Thanks Emile and your expert crew! We were prepared for weeks of mess and disruption but Bob made sure everything was cleaned up at the end of each day. We couldn't believe how quickly and efficiently things progressed. My kitchen is gorgeous, I got the changes I needed and now we have an extra room int the basement.

foundation repair

I needed some foundation repair work done. After getting a few quote I decided on OHI even though they were not the cheapest, as I bought into the story of local firm with lots of own staff with experience and expertise. It turned out they sub-contracted the critical foundation repair work to a small company who had never worked with nor heard of OHI before! I worked from home while the foundation work was getting done, and it was a good thing as they were going to just do things their way, not what OHI and I agreed to. Not once during those 2 days did anyone from OHI showed up while the work was getting done by the sub-con.
I don't know if the other crews that showed up for other tasks worked for OHI or not, but generally I was not impressed with what they did. Every day I came home I would find things not done properly. I would phone them, and yes they did come back and do what they were supposed to do in the first place. Sometimes the crew would show up with the wrong tools or no tools. What the contract spelled out, and what their project supervisor said they would do, and what actually got done were never the same.
From my experience, attention to details and doing it right the first time are definitely what you can expect from these guys.

Foundation repair

We bought an old house built in 1957 knowing that there was a leak around the porch in to the cold storage which we factored into the purchase price. Thinking we could save money, we hired a company who'd convinced us that we could just patch it for under $2,000 so we let them do the work. It was a total waste of money, the leak somehow seemed even worse because they had done some digging around the foundation and didn't fill it in properly which left a mess visible from the street. A year went by before we finally hired Ottawa Home Improvements after seeing them doing work at our neighbour's. What a difference it made to our home to have it done properly and they even gave us a warranty. These people were courteous, informative, did what they said they would do on time, cleaned everything up and stuck to their original quote. It's so nice to be able to downstairs to do laundry without worrying about stepping in a puddle every time it rains. I would not hesitate to recommend them and will hire them again for other work we need done.
