After numerous attempts to have our cedars trimmed (actually someone registered with Homestars) in the last number of months, we were very frustrated and game up to have our cedars trimmed. Finally, I thought to make one more attempt and had read Derek's positive reviews.
I called him and shortly after, he came and gave my neighbours and I a very reasonable estimate to tame our mutual hedge. He gave us a firm date to come. Knowing my experience, I was a little doubtful it would happen, but sure enough the team showed up as scheduled and even early. They did a super job, safely and cleaned up very well. We are now enjoying our correctly shaped hedges. It sure made my day, and so glad to have had such professional treatment from beginning to completion. I would gladly recommend them for any additional work.

I called Derek to describe my concerns and he promptly came the next day and presented me with a diagnosis of the problems,a plan of action and a quote which frankly i was pleasantly surprised as i expected the price to be much higher.

After a huge windstorm in Mississauga, we had 2 of our 6 of our giant cedar trees fall over. We found Derek's information online and asked him to come over to give us a quote. He was there within hours. As it turns out, he thought he could save the trees. He also pruned one of our other maple trees which was overgrown. Unfortunately, only 1 of the replanted cedar trees took. When we called him a few months later he removed the dead tree the next day free of charge.

Derek has done work for me, my family, my clients and my friends over the years, approximately 15 years. The regular service, that he does annually, is to prune and shape my trees and shrubs before they become too large. The key things that have kept me as a regular customer is Derek's work is always attractive, he not only cuts but he ensures the final shape/s are pleasing - he will make several trips to the sidewalk across the street to ensure he is getting the shape he desires. He is also punctual and reliable. The prices I have paid varied depending on the particular task I request. I am delighted to recommend his work.

After reading all the reviews I decided to give Derek a try. We had a large dying Maple tree in our front lot that needed removal. Right from the start it was a pleasant experience, unlike several others I tried. Derek called back right away and was very prompt about setting up a time for a quote. He showed up on time, and was quick, courteous and professional, the quote was reasonable. More than a month passed before I called him back, and he still remembered me and the job, and we then quickly set up a time, as I had a deadline to meet. On the day of the job Derek and his team showed up on time, with all their equipment and trucks and began working away. The job was done safely and quickly with no damage to overhead cables, or my house. They were all very nice even as neighbors came to watch/enquire about things, and let me keep the wood chips and my neighbor some of the wood for his fireplace. The stump was fully ground down and my lawn, driveway and surrounding area were all fully cleaned of fallen branches, woodchips, sawdust etc. I am very happy with the work Derek has performed for me and will happily recommend him to others.

This job was done as scheduled and as quoted (realistic pricing).
It was done efficiently and safely and included an immaculate clean-up.
There was an added bonus of being treated to a mini ‘cirque de soleil’ show as the technican did his work high in the tree top.

Derek and his team came highly recommended, and I was not dissapointed. A difficult tree in a cramped yard with very little room to work with, Derek and his team took the monster out in just a couple of hours. Derek and his team were very professional, operated with extreme care for the property, and demonstrated exceptional safety throughout the entire process.

A positive, pleasant experience from the very start.

My first experience with Derek's service was to remove a large quantity of tree branches I had trimmed myself. Out of the half-dozen or so places I found in the phone book and on the internet, he was the only one that called back. He showed up personally the next day to size up the job, gave me a very reasonable price for it, and a day or two later had his guys in to take care of the cleanup. They left my yard and driveway spotless, and then I knew for sure I was glad no other places had called back!

About a month after, I had an opportunity to get my driveway re-paved at a decent price. The pavers came in and started to prep the ground for new asphalt, then noticed that one of the roots from a mature silver maple tree in front of my house was running into the space they would be paving. We discussed a couple of options (and dismissed them as quickly) before settling on having a tree guy come in to assess and provide a solution.

Naturally, Derek's was the only name that came to mind. I called him up that evening and described the situation -- he came over next day after close of business and determined that the root in question could not be easily removed without compromising the tree. Upon further inspection, it turned out the tree was planted too close to the house to begin with, and would only cause more and more (expensive) problems down the line if left intact. So after some consideration and a fantastic price from Derek -- almost half what my neighbor had received from some other places -- we made the call to take the tree down.

Derek's crew arrived just before lunch hour on Monday morning, and got right to work. It wasn't long before they had the tree down and being fed into the chipper. Derek himself took up the task of grinding out the offending root and the tree trunk's base, leaving a nice pile of wood shreds that will make a great mulch on the small planter along my walkway. He also arranged for a city-contracted curbing crew to take the majority of the logs made from the tree!

In short, I can't say enough good things about Derek, his employees, and his company as a whole. Very reasonable, friendly yet professional, straightfoward, upfront, honest, and takes the time to explain not just the options available, but the reasons for and against each.

His will be the first company I recommend to anyone looking for this superior kind of service -- I know it'll be the first place I call when I look at my backyard trees in the spring!

After researching on Home Stars for a tree removal company, we called several companies. Derek responded the fastest (some did not respond at all) and with the most reasonable quote. He also gave us a couple of options/solutions to our tree problem, which we appreciated.

We needed to remove two large tree branches which were overhanging our house and which were a safety hazard. Although it was a difficult and complex job, Derek and his team did an excellent job removing the thick branches and subsequently removing the debris. Overall, they did the job very quickly and efficiently. and we were very happy with the end result.

They also removed another small tree in our backyard, which we requested.

We found Derek to be very professional, punctual, and straightforward and would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a reliable company to cut down a tree or to trim problem branches.
